Everybody here. Please help me. I have 6 cigarettes left. I will smoke them. What do I do after that? I am so scared. I have read every on of Joels documents, and I have watched every one of his videos. I know I can do this, I've done it before. Just typing this out has made me feel like a fool.

 

I've been here and done that, but it has never STUCK. I've stuck around the board, and when I am quit, I love to talk. When I am not quit I go on my way.

 

This could almost go in the SOS board, but I'm not putting it there.

 

I want help, and I need it badly.

 

HOW DO I GET RID OF THESE F*CKING THINS??!!??!?!??!?!?!?

That would not be optimal. Better to just toss them now.

None of that matters ... or is even important. There is only one thing that is important: Do. Not. Smoke.

 

Not even those last 5 or 6 you are saving.

Smoke.

 

I know I can do this, I've done it before.

Put them down and don't pick them up again.

Start with those 6 you just told us about. Flush 'em down the toilet

Listen to the sarge he speaks true just throw those 6 and be done and remember the basics and that you do not smoke anymore it is no longer a choice take it off the table. Vent here if you need, or whine whatever works but stick close to the board even when you feel you got this still stay close to board. You can do this

Come on throw them away, get lots of munchies in, all your favourite foods, eat and sleep was what I did the first few days, change your thoughts to positive thinking about becoming a non smoker, write down all the reasons you want to quit, ( write them here if it helps).

I promise you, life is a million percent better as a non smoker, much more fun, soo much more options when you don't have to spend every 20 mins thinking about smoking.

Get out and walk or swim or jog on the spot when an urge comes. Make sure and treat yourself at the end of each day to something you love, from here on don't allow any good thoughts to enter your head avout smoking, think of all the negatives.

Surely your life is worth soo much more than you are giving it.

Life is too short, why shorten it even more, you can and you will do this.

Sarge is right. We can't do it for you. You are ultimately the one who has to take their life back and break the addiction. We are here to support you and walk with you on this journey! I know that you can do this take the leap!

I totally understand and relate to how you feel right now.  If you feel you must smoke those last 6 cigarettes, then do it and be done!  You must wrap your mind around being a non-smoker.  It isn't always easy to put down something that you have depended on for so long, but I'm here to tell you it is possible and you can do it.  Those first three days are going to be hell.  You will go through the nicotine withdrawal, but the amazing part of it is the nicotine is out of your system after the 3rd day.  The rest is really just psychological warfare and changing your behaviors.  I would suggest having something to keep your hands and mind occupied during the next several days.  Perhaps get a puzzle to put together, or build something, or clean out a closet, or the garage, or the basement, or the attic.  Anything to keep you busy.  My house is slowly but surely being purged of unwanted stuff and things I just don't need.  Oh, and the organizing that is going on is amazing!  Now when I need to find something, I can pretty much go right to it instead of searching and pulling everything out.

 

And, the most important part, stick close to the board.  Someone is always here to help you through a difficult time.  I have been smoke free for almost three months.  I've never gone that long, and to be honest, with the exception of a crave here or there, I don't miss it at all.

 

Good luck, and remember, we are all here to support you.  You CAN do this.  You are stronger than those sticks.

So much of quitting (other than the 3 day of withdrawal) is mental.  You have got to get your mind right.  I was that guy that never tried to quit cause I did not think I could.  And everyone else thought that I never could...cause I was such a cigarette junkie.  One day...not even planned.... I was fed up..I said F it... I do not want to be controled any longer...I  WANT TO BE IN CONTROL.  So ...I took over.  Kinda like being in a bad marriage... you want to stick around and deal with sh*t or do you want to take over.

 

Time to get strong!!!  Get your mind right and get in control of your life.  NOW

 

Qutting will be the best thing you have ever done... trust me.  Time to stop f*cking around and do it for real!!!

Step one - Brilliant you posted. How to quit step one complete!!

 

Step two - Listen to the answers. So we talk of leaping, just jump etc. No one is ever ready, ever, it's addiction! 

 

Step three - Put your last cig out and tell yourself you are a non smoker. Then don't think of that for frikkin months and simply wake each day content not to smoke for that day!  Make it through each crave and later each day thinking today I won't.

 

Step four - educate. So you end up understanding what you've done by smoking. See money grow. Hear the cough simply dissapear and marvel. 

 

There will never be a right time and you felt so good about your practice quit. Remember that and get excited too!  This is freedom we are searching for here, goodness, you know about a fight for freedom IAM! Get a plan for what to do instead of smoke if craves hit. Have many early nights and loads of nice food like Sue said, that helped most of us a lot!

 

Jump!!

I've learned nope really does work once you stop just don't smoke don't over think it just don't smoke.

when will you smoke your last?.... decide on that... when will you start your quit?

You've got 6 smokes left so you have a choice - smoke the little suckers, or flush them down the toilet.  It makes no difference, there is no PERFECT last cigarette, it is a myth...  what is important is that you do not buy any more!! And do not smoke any more!!  I know it sounds easy, and you probably want to hit me for saying that, but non smokers don't smoke.  You can do literally anything else that you want, just not that... You can do it and you obviously want to do it because you've reached out for help.

 

I will lend you some of my strength, now please stay close to the board and reach out to us whenever you feel weak -we will do everything we can to help.  We know it's hard, we've all been there!

You've had brilliant advice....I will give you mine.....was a smoker 52 years......

Smoked my last and said that's it....no matter what my body or my mind threw at me I wouldn't smoke....

I just rode it out.....white knuckled it out some days....but knew I would,nt give in.....

I stayed close to the board ,listened to what I was being told.....and believing in my self.....

It got easier and easier ,until one day I reolized I actually loved being quit.....

Don't over think things.....just do it ,day by day....

We will support you all the way....

Hey I am!

 

Good to see you again.

 

A lot of people make a lot of money keeping folk addicted. I'm pretty certain that everyone here is an addict. Some using, some not. So - me and you, were the same stupid.

 

a. Right now you can bang your head against a wall. b. Or you can not. 

 

a. You can smoke a cigarette. b. Or you can not.

 

Both Option As are stupid and hurt you.

 

Both Option Bs do not.

 

There is no magic pill or magic thought. No mythical starting point. Quit smoking and your addiction will squeal at you. It willsqual if you quit today, tomorrow or in ten years.

 

Instantly you quit you will feel better. 

Instantly you quit you will feel in control.

Then like everyone else who ever quit; you will decide to stay quit or to smoke again...every day it will get easier not to smoke - like it does for millions of others the world over.

 

You can do this Iam....stop torturing yourself and get on with it!

Have you thought about enrolling in a stop smoking class at the hospital? They are usually free . Or some NRT to help? Chantix or something?

 

What do you think is holding you back? Is it withdrawal? Or any particular thing?

In one of your posts you wrote: "Getting back on the ride, perhaps riding until almost the end, because I still don't know when the end is..."  It sounds to me like you can't imagine living the rest of your life without a cigarette. That's what you're afraid of. When will all this "quit" stuff end?

 

I think that it is important to remember that you need to want to quit more than you want to smoke. That is VERY important. So before you finish those last few cigarettes you should make a list of the 3 or 4 most important reasons you are quitting. Try to make them specific. Not "for my health" but "I don't want to be on oxygen and in a wheel chair by the time I'm 65". Create some vivid images in your head. 

 

If you can come up with a written list of 3 or 4 really compelling reasons to quit before you smoke cigarette #6, I think it will really help you to make this your last quit. Yes, you will still have to do the NOPE and hang on through the craves, but if you want to quit more than you want to smoke, you will succeed. Forever.
