It seems there is some crazy energy floating about at the moment and a number of folks are feeling pressured.  Other then that someone asked me last week how to get started.

I view meditation as a prize. If I can get my head to shhh long enough it calms me and my mind and also allows me to connect with my gut instincts. However my method for getting there is unusual and I play really loud music first, often like metallica or house classics lol.  This shuts up my over active brain so that it's empty for me to start and I just sit comfortably and let thoughts come and go (or not) as they choose.

So how do normal people start this? Has anyone used the beginners ones off you tube or got a favoured method?

Interested in the answers to be honest :)

You know I am on board... just trying to quiet my mind long enough to get it going.  Not going very good so far.  Very hard.

I will let you know how it goes an how I get started.

I'll be honest.....of course ......

I actually go to what I call proper meditation....I love it.......

It a lovey calming feeling being in a room with folks who are all doing the same the thing....relaxing......

And then we get tea and bicky,s........

I would no way be able to switch off in our house.....tony,s oxygen machine is one noisy s.o.b.....

Plus I wear my I pod ....a lot........

Carnt shuffle and meditate......

Hugs xx

Doreensfree, tea and bicky's?  Love it.

Marti, I am preparing a room in my house right now to be used for a dressing room, but also to be used as a meditation room.  It should be done this week.  I was planning on doing some of the beginner's stuff from youtube, so as soon as I begin, I will report back to you on how it is helping me.

I have different moods as to what music I'm in the mood for.  If I'm feeling my rock roots, I usually listen to some classic rock.  If I'm feeling stressed, I usually listen to easy or light jazz.  If I'm feeling sentimental, I'll pull out all my old favorites that have some meaning behind them.  But, I also like meditation type music, so I'm going to go for it.  I need to allow my body time to destress and stop feeling so tense all the time.

Brilliant, keep em coming with ideas, I know a few of us meditate and I'd like to tell people "how to" as it's such a win for me and so amazing!!  But it took me months of failing before I found "my way" and then it clicked for me. I'm just not a dolphin music kinda chick I guess :)

Then people ask me how I started and I can't find a start point to say try this?  So it's good to hear other peoples takes on it.

I went to something like that before Dor but I'm a disaster, I always get the giggles and get asked to leave,

I found some meditation music that was binaural beats I think it was called and really helped me meditate but after a few weeks I atarted suffering with terrible heart palpitations so had to stop listening to it so I'm on the look ou for some other meditation music cos that's the only way I can do it, I swear I felt like I had been lifted in the airvand was floating all round my room once, it was mad,

Woo woo as the sarge will probably say ;)

It's one of those invest your time things I think. We are so used to have a million thoughts flying through our heads we find it hard to hold one train of thought. Even more difficult to empty our brain. It's worth persevering.  I spent a lot of time early days practising before going to sleep whilst laying in bed. Then if I fell asleep, no harm done lol. Just went to bed half hour earlier.

Currently I use the youtube videos at night when I get into bed. I also will use some you tube videos which are rainstorm sounds or chimes while I breath deeply.

I'm so restless.  I have a glass of wine (sometimes I even have 2 - :) ) , then go to bed.  That is my meditation.

I took this yoga/meditation class once a week for 8 weeks. It wasn't enjoyable for me.  It was in the middle of the afternoon, (1:15 - 2:30), so maybe it was just a hard time for me to relax, but seriously - I couldn't wait to get out of there.

Sarge has talked about the "Woo Woo" before.  He isn't into it  - at all.  :)

Sarge spits on All Woo Great And Small.

PTUI!

The jury is still "inconclusive" on meditation ... but it's highly suspect.

ptui - lol :)  Personally, I think spitting is gross.

IMHO - mediation doesn't necessarily fall under the Woo Woo category, like say tarot card reading does.

I was just agreeing that The Sarge has talked about "Woo Woo" before, and it is personally hard for me to relax and meditate cuz I am a little high strung (especially at 1 in the afternoon).

I think we can get pretty meditative enjoying a favorite meal - like tacos, for example (one of my personal favorites).

I think The Sarge would agree.

I finally finished my dressing room/meditation room.  I posted the pictures in the Gallery here.  Take a look and tell me what you think?

I personally love it.  It turned out exactly how I pictured it.

I don't know as if I could do this with others Petra? I think the easiest way to start is to try and clear your mind laying in bed before sleeping. Now I use music to empty my head of thoughts (Metallica, nothing else matters or Nightcrawlers, or Buckethead the bomb are favoured lol). My friends use a lot of dolphin music and drumming type stuff but I think that's a bit much for me. Although I do like chakra drums.

*slinking quietly to do my woo woo work* haha. Tarot, Crystals, angel healing, Universal reiki healing, empathic healing, lightworker. I can bring all kinds of woo woo :)  but meditation is very natural and I think our brains need time to slow down. And we need time to connect to who we are inside and listen to that.

Renee, where would I find the gallery, I would love to see the meditation room pics :) x

Sleep meditations on youtube are a nightly ritual for me ever since I had my eye surgery.

It really stops the mind racing.

**Note, mind racing issues are about a fourth as bad as when I used to smoke. Just another benefit of quitting.**
