One of the mums at my daughters school quit using it. (she had tried and failed on nicotine patch and gum).  I considered it then went chantix route as it was more tried and tested and I was desperate to quit.

I believe when we chatted she said it had a herbal component called labeelia? (Saying that how it sounded, will need to check spelling lol) which is similar in plant make up to nicotine but not addictive? Sounded plausible to me tbh but like you I couldn't find more then her and got nervy.

Don't know if that helps or not actually. Maybe ask your doctor?

Thanks for the responses! This is my first time attempting to quit after 20 years of smoking so I haven't tried any other NRT yet. I was worried about the side effects of some of pills such as Chantix so I was hoping to find something with minimal side effects if possible.

Hey Cloud - all a bit technical for me.

When I quit - i wanted to STOP taking stuff. It just seemed simpler.

To paraphrase I wise old guy - "Just don't put things in your mouth and set fire to them"

Have you considered cold turkey?

Lots of people here quit with the aid of Chantix - I'm sure they would be willing to help you out with any questions you have. But I have an honest question for you - what side effect could possibly be worse than continuing to smoke?! You are free to quit in any way you see fit; if one method isn't right for you, try another, until you can stay quit. That's the only thing that matters.

I'm glad you found us, and j hope that we can help you on your journey to freedom :)

I've tried the Cold Turkey 2 months ago and I ended up smoking again after 6 days. I'm going to try again now but I think an aid may help me get off and stay off.

The chantix did have side effects for sure. Like you I felt like I needed a "crutch" if you will. I don't regret taking it with all it's side effects, I'd do it again if I needed too. Where I am today was worth a few weeks of feeling a bit barmy :)

That said I totally understand and endorse herbal remedies (totally I make them from my garden so do agree0 just the lack of info worried me when I wanted to quit so desperately! Either way if you try can you feed back to here as I'd be interested for other people I try and help.

6 days was a good start though! We call them practice quits here, or one guy did and I'm totally stealing it haha.  I think to steal another quote quitting is a journey, not a place. You will go through some stuff and staying close to a forum will help as much as any other crutch you choose to use as people have been exactly where you are at that point.  Look forward to hearing your plan when you've thought it through.

Cloud, welcome!  Obviously none of us know about NicRx...I can't find anywhere that says it can be harmful...so why not give it a try if you think it might help!

If an aid will aid - then go for it. Its all about the result!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
