It's official, I am on the train - today was set to be my quit date but after a few days on this site and the stories and support I got etc..  I surprised myself and started a day early - I couldn't even make it to my own quit date - how ironic! So thanks for the support it really put me in the frame of mind I needed to be in. I know it is a long journey and I will have some tough days ahead of me so I will take it one hour at a time I guess and come here for support if I lose my focus.

Congratulations. The first few days can be a little rough. Stick close to the site, read, read, read and if you feel that you may be in danger of smoking post an SOS. You can do this! :D

WTG Tom!  Aside from not smoking, the next best thing you can do is stick to this board as often as possible.  Do not hesitate to post about a rough time, even if it seems trivial.  Best to nip it in the bud.  A lot of us have had success in changing our routine and other habits.  For example, if you associate coffee with smoking, you might want to cut back or drink it while reading the QT instead of smoking.

I'm not sure if you exercise regularly or not, but it helps tremendously with a lot of the withdrawal symptoms and jitters.  If you look around the forum, you'll notice hardly exercised before quitting.  What was just something to waste time and calm us, turned into a very healthy habit, sometimes obsession lol.

Stay strong and remember each crave you face down, makes you stronger.  Before long, you will barely notice them, more like a thought than a crave.

Good deal, Tom!  One Day At A Time at the beginning is so important to set realistic goals.

Read, watch videos and take advantage of everything Quit Train has to offer.

Have you given any thought to my previous suggestion of starting your own blog?  I think your first post in this thread is a good start.  :)

Oh wow, Tom that's really brilliant!!!  Change your quit date in your profile so we can track with you :)

Make sure you take sips of fruit juice for the first 3 days while your blood sugar levels settle.

Like life, there may be good days and bad days, that's ok. When you feel either way post it up so we know how best to support you. Sometimes we can't see the junkie thinking that may lead us to relapse ourself but someone else spots it and lets you know. It's pretty useful as it's all from people who have been where you/we are once.

So day 2, let's do this!!!

Yay Tom!

Glad to hear you've quit!  I  spent  my first day reading here. Post if you have any questions.

And remember cigarettes do absolutely nothing for you.

Just this one sentence has made my quit so much easier.

Just look at all you have to gain, besides the obvious (health).

Your family will be so proud of you.

You are a non-smoker :)

great job Tom!  When I quit 2 years ago...it was the same thing..I was planning to quit on a monday but friday I had enough...so I quit early too.

Stick close to the board...drink a ton of water...fruit..fruit juice..take walks....keep busy...change your routine.  It's an exciting journey where you will learn all kinds of interesting things about yourself...buckle your seatbelt...it's actually a great ride.  :)

So excited for you...you can do it!

Congratulations Tom! I too quit two days before my quit date. I was fed up with it.

The first days can suck. But they are over and dusted and you´ll start feeling much better after two or three days. Take notice of the benefits and congratulate yourself every night for going to bed as a non-smoker.

Best decision ever. You´ll see :good:

Ah brilliant Tom fair play to you, it doesn't need to be too hard, try focus on the positives of quitting especially when you get a craving, it helps to think about how you smell much nicer, breathing better, food tasting better, teeth getting whiter etc

I would say come on bring it, do your worst, is that all you've got and laugh when I'd have a crave, it really helped me for some reason. You've got this, great stuff you happy healthy non smoker, keep saying no thanks I don't smoke, I hate smoking yuck its disgusting, paying to poison yourself, madness etc xx

Yep Tom, that's exactly how  it's done one step at a time hour by hour and come here for support

Yahoos for you and today's quit :)

Fantastic news, stay close by, reading posts here on the board really helps, try and stay focused on why you are quitting, and if and when a crave hits, breath through it, NOPE is the way to go, second by second if needed xx

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
