My husband is a subcontractor for a couple property maintenance companies and one of the things he does for them is to go into properties that are no longer occupied and fix what needs fixing so they can be rented out again. Sometimes people leave so much crap behind he has to rent a dumpster or make multiple trips to goodwill to donate if they actually leave anything of value behind. People do actually leave good stuff behind sometimes.

This morning my husband called me he sounded so sad. he says they left a cat in here, the litter box is overflowing, the food bowl is empty, and there is a tiny bit of water. He says this is such a sweet cat following him around rubbing up on him wanting to be loved.

We are in Phoenix AZ it is hotter than hell here right now I do not know if they left the AC on for this cat or not. If my husband had put this unit off until next week the cat likely would not have survived being trapped in there.with no food and possibly in very hot temperatures.

Who does this kind of thing? I know people have tough times but really? I have gone through tough times and I could never just leave my cat. I don't want to move to a new house because I don't want to leave the few strays I feed with no one and these people abandoned their own cat.I would not want to take my cat to shelter ever because i know the statistics and I know how scary it would be but to leave a cat locked up alone with no food and no chance to find any. I just can't imagine what i would do if I had to let my cat go,but I know I would not do this!

My husband wants to bring this cat home. I have 2 fixed male cats already. The older one is very mellow and good natured he has never had a problem accepting new cats and he does not bother with any of the cats that wander into our yard. The younger one however is very territorial and does not take kindly to  cats that come into the yard, there is one in particular that he always tries to go after. He has tangled with this cat enough to have to go to the vet for an absess cause by a cat bite. Funnily he only goes after some cats, I wonder if maybe some of them are fixed and he only goes after the unfixed ones. I know the one he tangles with the most is unfixed.

Well I am a cat lover but I really do not like the stress of introducing a new cat into the household.Bringing kittens in is hard enough. But how do I say no to this poor baby who just got left behind all alone? Worst thing is he told me he looks just like the best cat I ever had that I had to put down 7 years ago because of cancer. He knows how to pull my heartstrings for sure.

He is taking the cat to the vet to have he/she checked out today. I am so sad for this kitty. I have a feeling we are about to have a 3rd cat if the vet says its healthy and hopefully already fixed. People can just be so awful :(

maybe you can post an ad to find him/her a new home? or the vet might be able to help with rehoming him? is there someplace in the house you can keep him separate in a different room temporarily until you find a home for him/her? people are assholes (no nice way to put it) that do that seriously you get an animal for a pet it is yours for life (I understand things can come up and situations might arise where you would have to find a new home for the pet but at least find the pet a new home dont abandon the poor thing) Pets are a responsibility just as children are people just dont get it. Awful people!! Wish there were proper laws against poor treatment!!

Awww, hope you find a solution that works, I hate the thought of a cat being alone.

He brought her home. She is so skinny and very affectionate. Poor thing. We are setting her up in my sons room for now.

She is really hungry poor thing is trying to inhale the food so we have to give her a little bit at a time so she does not get sick.

It is unfortunate that it is Friday because the cat clinic we use closes early on Friday and is closed on weekends so we will have to find a vet around here to see her or else wait until Monday.

The older cat saw her and does not seem to care. The younger cat is hanging out by my sons door but is not acting angry. Hopefully they will get along.

Either she will stay or go but we will not let her be abandoned. I wish I could figure out how to post a picture she is gorgeous.

So husband said no AC. They left 2 windows open but the cat seems to be afraid of the outside so she did not leave.Leaving 2 windows open in June in Phoenix is not good enough I am so glad she did not get overheated.

I guess you know what I will be doing this weekend.

Ugh... If I were in your position, I'd be getting my 3rd cat, lol.

My cat? She is more like a child... I would never make her go without anything... Some people are so cruel :(

Maybe your younger cat only has a problem with males, and not females...?!

I hope so. I would hate to have to take her away from my kids who have already fallen in love with her.

My son and I are huge fans of the show my cat from hell. So we are aware of all the problems we could have, but we also know a lot of things we can do to try and make her fit in.Hopefully all the stuff we have learned from that show will make it possible for her to stay.

We are doing well financially now but many years ago when we were poor, we would buy cat food before we bought people food. We are suckers for out kitties

Animal abuse is a felony in all 50 States.. I am sure the previous owners could be found and charged. There is no excuse for that type of behavior from pet owners.

Bonnie broke my heart reading this, how lucky this wee kitty has found you and your hubby, it really makes my blood boil when I hear of animals being mistreated, why on earth get a pet when you have no intention of loving it, I have two cats, and would have a houseful if I could, hopefully the vet will find her or him in good health and she or he will have its furever home with you.  Please keep us updated and pictures would be lovely.  Such lovely big hearts your family has, much love on its way to the poor wee kitty xxx

That's how I got my dog, Zeus. He was abandoned in an apt in the summer and the maintenance man found him.  He weighed 38 pounds when I got him.  He should have weighed close to a 70.  You could see every bone in his body and we had to feed him slowly, although he wanted to gobble everything up as fast as he could.  He is now 160.  And the best damn dog I could ever ask for.

I think you should get animal control involved. these people should be held responsible..

Update.

So sad to find out from the property owners that there were many cats left behind at this property. They sent animal control to get them, apparently this little girl found a good place to hide.

I can't stop thinking about all the poor kitties that got a scary ride and are now either in cages or even worse :(

I called our cat clinic on Friday and made an appointment for her first thing Monday morning.

I think she is somewhere between 6 months and a year old. My husband wants to call her Lucky. My 14 year old daughter just saw Dirty Dancing a few weeks ago and so she has her heart set on calling her Baby. She and my son have been calling her Baby so like it or not she will probably be called Baby. Not my first choice of names but if it makes them happy.....

Leo the older cat is acting a little aloof toward me right now but has shown no aggression or anger towards her.

George the big baby is giving a major attitude towards me and growls when he sees her and will not let her out of his sight. He has not made any moves to try and attack her though so I am hopeful he will come around. He watched her drink from his fountain I really thought that was gonna be what made him attack but he let her do it.

She on the other hand does not want them anywhere near her. She has the meanest growl I have ever heard come from such a little kitty. Leo actually seems scared of her, when he had to go past her to get from one room to the other he walked right along the wall to stay as far from her as possible. She may be the hardest one to get to come around.

The way it looks now they won't be able to be left alone together for a few weeks but I am hopeful they are going to learn to get along. Lets hope the vet says all is good when he sees her on Monday.

She is so pretty. I am hoping to have the time and patience to learn this photo bucket thing today so i can show off my 2 boys and their new little girl friend. Well hopefully they will be friends soon.

She is just gorgeous!!!

My mum used to have a cat called Maddy. She was a moody thing, and wouldn't let any toms in the garden, even though she was only small, she was tough, and the tom's knew it. When my mum brought home two kitten brothers, she hated them. She would not let them near without attacking them, would not share good, would not be in the same room. They were terrorfied of her!

After a while she started to accept them. While she was never best friends with them, she was no longer affected by them - she basically ignored them, but there was no drama. Except that she would protect them from other toms.

I think that eventually they will all realise that they are all living together, and they will adapt appropriately. I don't think the drama will last very long.

I hate to think of the other kitties at the shelter.

I am so proud of you for taking her in.

Cats can take time to get used to other cats, and like DD says, they have a habit of avoiding each other when they don't.
