Wow! I hope you sent the video to the trucking company.

Yep, and the police!

I've had a lot of 'moments' on my bike, usually a bit close or turning in front of me, these are annoying, but this one was properly scary. Had to hit the brakes hard not to get squashed, I didn't really see the funny side to be honest.

Normally I would say... Bloody cyclists! lol.. But yeah, he was a bit off a nob, wasn't he.

Do you always film your journey to work, and for this reason?

"bit off a nob"... The guy could have easily killed me if I hadn't have jammed on my brakes, the lorry was about a foot away from my right foot and shoulder and if I hadn't have slowed right down I would have gone under the wheels and likely be dead. I would suggest "bit off a nob" is an understatement to say the least.

I don't understand the bloody cyclists commandment of drivers. I have (as a road user) have equal right to the carriageway, my journey to work is faster by bike than by car (and I take the same route), so I am not holding anyone up. Now, if there is a stretch of road where it is not safe to pass me, I will make sure cars do not pass me by cycling defensively, you may have to slow to my speed for that section of road, this is going to be no more than a couple of minutes, chill out, don't worry about it, if you're in that much of a rush you should have left earlier.

That lorry had plenty of room to pass me safely, but he chose to not look in his inside mirror and see if he had passed me before moving in. This quite simply is dangerous driving.

I film every trip I make on my bike for exactly these reasons. I've had lots and lots of times where people have cut me up and made me slow or change direction to avoid a collision. This generally is annoying, but nothing more than that. This case was properly dangerous.

"Bloody Cyclists lol" Motorists who have no experience of cycling seem to think it is reasonable to pass a cyclist 2 feet away. It is not. I can't imagine anyone is generally happy with 2 tonnes (or more) of metal shooting past them at 30mph 2 feet away. Give space. Pass safely. If you can't fit, wait. It's very simple.

Here in the States roads are for travel.

All. Forms. Of. Travel. [1]

Car. Mortocycle. Walker. Cycler. Horse. Horse and buggy. F_cking Llama or Elephant [2] if you want to be riding one.

Not a damned driver out there understands this.

Not. A. One.

As a runner/walker/cyclist and motorcycle rider, this really pisses Sarge off.

He gets told it's his fault for nearly causing a collision. "Shouldn't be biking in the damne road", they say.

Fooking half-wits, says The Sarge.

FOOTNOTES:

[1] Barring "limited access" expressway/highway roads, private toll-roads,  and the like.

[2] assuming you can slap the appropriate headlights/tail-lights and whatnot on 'em to make 'em "street legal".

Jaysus Rob I'm not surprised that scared the crap out of you, I'd have skid marks in my pants after that, thankfully you didn't get hurt, though dI'd say you were shaking for ages after, could have been soo bad.

My hubby cycles alot to work, he's had a few similar incidents, people need to open their eyes when driving, far too many careless drivers out there.

OK, perhaps you were not in the best frame of mind to receive my strange case of humour for the morning... Understandable.

You say you have equal right, and I agree completely with you there. Cyclists who respect drivers and the rules are fine - I will always give them the space and respect they deserve, because I don't have any more rights than they do.

What I was really talking about were the cyclists who think they own the road... The ones who think that traffic lights don't apply to them or ride side by side with their mates, or ride in the dark with no lights, cross lanes without signalling... I suppose it's a case of a few ruin the reputation for the many.

Traffic lights, a cyclist jumping a red light is unlikely to kill someone, a driver cutting a cyclist will. Now I agree if a cyclist is endangering others by doing so is bad and should be punished. If however, they are jumping a light to get ahead of the traffic so they don't get caught up in it when the lights turn green, this surely is safer for everyone? Furthermore, show me a driver who doesn't break speed limits, even by 1 or 2 mph... It's still breaking the law, now, I think we can agree that's probably not unsafe, so lets not get our knickers in a twist about minor traffic violations.

Riding side by side is actually safer for everyone than if they were in a line. A cyclist is entitled to the entire carriageway so a car should only pass if the other lane is clear to do so (as they would if it was a small car), so riding side by side actually makes the overtake shorter and therefore safer. It is also safer for the cyclists as the driver is forced to make a safe pass. This is particularly the case on narrow roads where drivers may try to squeeze through.

Riding is the dark without lights is frucking stupid I totally agree, equally cyclists without helmets on or any form of high vis apparel.

Changing lane without signalling I agree can be annoying but if you're behind the cyclist you should be a safe distance away to notice the lane change, furthermore, many car drivers do this.

I understand where you're coming from, some cyclists are dicks, equally some motorists are dicks, and there are a lot more motorists than cyclists on the road, ergo, more dickhead motorists that cyclists on the road. (I appreciate this maths is flawed but you get my point)
