Ever use Vertical lookup/Vlookup?  I am having an issue merging two sheets..For all my Excel experience, I have never need to merge sheets like this.  I mean, I use Excel for everything.  At home, for keeping track of this and that, even a reward system I have set up for my son.  At work, I am in spreadsheets constantly.  It is hard to explain, but each week, I am given a new spreadsheet of accounts I have to work on, only I still need to work on the old spreadsheet.  It is too time consuming considering the web based program I wo

rk with is so slow.  It has gotten to the point that I have been working through lunch to get by.  i need to merge the sheets each week, only each sheet has different columns of info.  I am thinking a vlookup is my only viable option...Only this sort of thing makes me nervous, I have lost data before; n H3lp!

I have a pretty similar problem, but keep putting it off... If you figure it out, please let me know. I will look around about more and see if I can figure it out...

Just google it! There's a million youtube videos etc that will explain it. vLookups are incredibly straight forward. But start with a blank sheet and make a simple example, the biggest mistake people make when doing this sort of thing is try and go straight in with the big spreadsheet.

Then once you've done that and made a whole industry around flaky excel spreadsheets, go see a developer and get the solution provided on an appropriate platform.

I don't know how to do what you want to do with Excel but it sounds as if you should be in Access.

Nobody should ever be in access. Nothing good will ever come of it.

I agree Access is horrible.  I did not figure it out, but I didn't try too hard lol.  I reformatted each spreadsheet to match each other.  Then I copied cells to my master sheet, then sorted by account name, then by account number and then by balance.  It took way too much time.  Each week I receive a new spreadsheet with a bunch of information, some I don't even need.  Every week the sheet is in a completely different format.  I spend more time messing with it then anything else.  I am working remotely as a contractor for a company that manufactures MRI machines, CT scans and such.  Their forte obviously is not in accounting.  I think I need to figure this vertical look up thing though.
