I have an arsenal but still struggling. Can't do anything real physical due to recent hip replacement. I can't get up or down very easy so only so much house cleaning I can do.

I am currently smoking a plastic straw, seems to help some.  When I am done with my straw it will bake to the kitchen to bake.  keeps me busy...but we quit smoking for better health and I can't stop eating.  I have to get control or I will have a whole other problem.  I am no good with technology. I love the board, first time I have ever done this.  Find myself getting frustrated when I can't get things work right and just that makes me want to smoke.

Kris, try to find healthy eating alternatives you enjoy. Don`t add stress to an already stressful situation by worrying about weight. There will be time for that later. This is the time to focus on no smokes. Get it off your mind. Not easy I know but try not to let it consume you. It will get easier. We have all been through this and believe me when I say we`re no stronger or better than you. You want it and it can be done. hang in there. Going for my morning walk before the desert heat amps up. Have to self catheter and head out. Stay strong and hang in there. Check back on you. best wishes.

Not sure how to help , you know you best . What NRT are you using ?  I never used NRT so Hard for me to answer this but I have heard some get tummy issues from Chantix . I'm guessing others could also cause nausea . Did you check the packaging for side effects ? Nerves can make you feel nauseated as well . Everyone is different .  You are doing a great job Kris . If concerned talk I always recommend to talk with your doctor . Not everything is quit related .

Thanks  for your support. just hate that feeling, makes it difficult to concentrate.

I see your in Phoenix, the mornings there are so beautiful.  My husband and I spent a lot of time there doing clinical trials when he was sick.

Have to say we had a good time sight seeing and enjoying some good food.

I know one thing, I can get thru the rough parts of the quit.  I could not do what you have to do to take a walk, you are TOUGH.

Abby ,

using nicotine lozenges, I am going to do some research.  I hope that is what is causing it.  I will have incentive to get the nicotine out of my system.

Too scared to go without it yet.

I use to chew the gum when i was a smoker and had to go on long flights. It helped but I did not use it to try to quit. I think Doreen is right on with her advice. Whatever gets you through the night for now but you don`t want to OD on these. Be careful. It is a drug and to much could be harmful. Perhaps someone who used this to quit will offer advice. Your TOUGH also Kris. Hang in there. Best wishes.

Thanks everyone, I am careful to follow the directions and have been actually using less of the lozenges than they recommend.  I know there is such a thing as a nicotine OD, also just want to make it as easy as possible to stop using them when I am stronger in the journey.

I do use Jillar air smokes, have a huge pack!! I know that I have to get off these lozenges asap,  I am experiencing the same things you describe.

I don't know why this is but I picture you in Chicago not Burbank.

Weird!

I like your sense of humor @Kris, you seem so fun 😊 For me if I eat a bunch of different things it upsets my stomach. Maybe that's the case for you too? 🤔

yep jillar, I'm a virtual human garbage disposal right now.  I will have to get back on track later, right now I am just concentrating on the one thing I have to do.  Wish you could come by and review my fridge and pantry, you would  be on the ground in laughter.  It is like being pregnant at 62!

Doreen, I am being careful, I do not cut them in half anymore.  I put one in my mouth and set  a timer for 2 minutes.  I remove said lozenge and place it on a saucer until I need another fix.  Sometimes 2, 4 or 6 hours depending how well I am distracting myself.  The instructions say I can use 9 a day,  I am only using 3 or 4 a day with my new method.  I want to get nicotine out of my life in everyway.

I think I will stop the acupuncture after tomorrow because I don't think it really helps. I will go into see the GP and get a referral to a therapist to help me work thru this.  you all are great and if we could get together face to face it would be great.  I think some in person group therapy might be helpful.

Hi Jillar and Doreen,

I went to start watching all the documentaries and such but I am having sound issues with my PC.  Called my son and he will come over and take a look.  Maybe a few days.  In the meanwhile I have called my GP and have an appointment to go in on Friday, to discuss other things that might help including group therapy. Just want to you all to know you have been great with advice and support.  I just think it would be good to join a group that I can talk with in person. I wish you were all close to me geographically and we could meet for coffee, lunch, dinner or anything.   I will continue to be a member of the board.

@Kris, sorry you're having trouble playing videos. Group therapy helps lots of people so hopefully you'll find it helpful too.

I've never seen an in person quit smoking support group. And if that's the reason you're looking into it you may find it hard to find in your area too.

Please remember that you smoked for 40 years! So to expect to be free of this addiction in your first month or few quit just isn't realistic. Especially if you're still using NRTs.

We feel it takes a full year to get past most of the triggers a year can bring. And really no one knows better how to succeed then a group of former smokers who have right?!

You can expect to feel uncomfortable and have pretty good craves at the minimum for the first month. My whole first year was hard, but doable because I listened to all those who came before me.

I'm glad you're staying because I feel like you need us more then ever, we got your back girl! 🤗

If you run out, remember there are neighbors ... on the same side of the street AND other side of the street.  Hopefully, they're nice and will offer you food on their own.  If not .... well, there are other ways of getting to their pantry.

Sounds like an idea.

Jillar, I don't know if group therapy exists for this either, but I did do group for anxiety about 30 years ago and it did help.  I may just have to work one on one.

unless some of you or me fly some where and start our own.

Hey D2, I already have that covered. The next door neighbors already bring me things now, brisket, blueberry muffins, chicken salad etc

Thanks D2,

It has been a joy, there are a few of us I call the oldtimers.  I have been here 27 years.  There are those who have been here longer and them there are the many

special people we have lost over that time.  Our little street only has 12 homes and we have had as many deaths over the years.  Four couples that were here original owners of their homes and I few like me that were widowed over the years. Many of them the reason I have stayed after my husband passed. I should not be here in this great big house all alone, I should let it go to a young family but I can't bear the thought of leaving.

One of the reasons we bought it was, if our parents were to need care, we would have the space to provide for them.  The only one that had to come was my Mom

(who already been moved to the next street over) and this was after my husband had passed.   There for a little while I had four generations together in this house.

Bet you did not expect such a long answer.  That is what insomnia does for you.

Answer away @Kris.  I sleep late as well plus tomorrow (or today now) is a holiday so I could go really late.

I can see the board has been good for you in some ways.  Generally, when people post often, it's usually a good sign that the quit will be successful.  Doesn't mean that quiet people will not but, you know, generally.

Not sure which part of the world you're from but house prices here are through the roof.

I am in Texas, and the real estate market has gone crazy here too.  My son started working on getting a real estate license after the pandemic hit.  How funny, to spend so much money on a college degree (trust me I am not laughing) to see him forced to change careers. He is still working full time at his chosen profession

(professional trainer) although things got really slow for a while. He thought it would be good to have a back up plan. The homes that are put up for sale go very fast, way over asking and always a bidding war.

My home is paid off and I could make a small fortune but I would spend almost all of it to find a smaller home.

What part of Texas? My only daughter and the other 7 grandchildren are in a Dallas suburb called Flower Mound. I was there in March.
