I should eat better, Im' eating a peanut buster parfait as I write this. All I eat is junk food and out, I haven't cooked or made anything for months and months. I love when I go home to Vegas and my mom cooks for me :)

The Sarge grows / raises / hunts  most of what he eats.

Green is good.

Hard to grow a peanut buster parfait 'round these parts. The Sarge wouldn't know where to acquire seeds.

You can get away with the junk until ... maybe age mid 40's ... then it catches up to most folks. Diabetes. High blood pressure. High cholesterol. Metabolic Syndrome. Heart attacks. Strokes. Like smoking, the junk food will catch up with most who don't manage to quit. Sarge's own Momma Sarge is gonna die 10 years early because of the junk food. She's got the DeathFat™ [1]. She managed to quit smoking, but she can't lick the Deep Fried Chicken Mc Bacon Cheeze Mc Burger Nuggets with a sloppy side of Huge Fries covered in Mayonaise, washed down with an 800 calorie Coffee-McMilkshake and ... (that's right Ladies and Gentlemen) a DIET Coke[2].

Bad food is fine, once in a while, but when it's your primary sustenance ... well ... problems are just aroiund the corner and sooner than you think.

The Sarge allows himself a day once a week and that's just about enough without going overboard.

You are right, Lucy: you should eat better.

What's stopping you?

FOOTNOTE:

[1] 66 years old, 5'4" and pushing 400 pounds. She's tryin' real hard to get there- she'll make 400 in less than 2 years ... if she's not dead first.

[2] Like that's gonna save her...

Somebody better tell my parents they are near 70 and still eat out and fry almost everything and have dessert every night! It kills me cause I exercise 5 days week while they never do and my mom is tiny, tiny I yell at her for it lol.

Edited to add. I'm gonna try eatting better and see if I can exercise only 3 days a week.

And Sarge's Paternal Grandmother chain-smoked Herbert Tarryton non-filters from the age of 12 thru the age of 92 without a smoking related illness.

There are always outliers. Statistical anomolies.

Odds are decidely in favor of putting off health problems longer, and better quality life from both quitting smoking AND improving poor diet.

I like that you grow your own food. I live in a town house in a hot, humid, urban environment so I buy mine....it is true that after a certain age, you just can't abuse your body. I am thinking about this alot now that I am 50.

I pretty much plant a garden because I enjoy it.. but I am not doing a garden this year.. I am just way to behind with everything else around here.  I have way to many farm stands around here that are just too convienient so I wont be lacking fresh home grown produce.

This past year has seen a lot of change in my world... Diet and exercise are very important.. I am amazed how people transform... I recently bet two different ladies each had lost over a 100 pounds in the past two years. I could not believe thier before pics..

Your lunch looks great Sarge!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
