@Abby, I am confused by your reaction to my post. It was meant to be positive, and helpful. Certainly there was nothing “hurtful” in my words. Perhaps espouses would have been a better word choice than preach? I can assure you, I did not mean to upset you, in any way. Quite the opposite, in fact.

I am scared of where this might go just like many of you.  I am vaccinated but continue to isolate as much as possible and still wear a mask when I go out. I will continue with all the safeguards going forward.  I still think things are not safe yet as so many of you feel.  I am concerned about financial issues as prices continue to rise.  I am building safe pantry just in case, not hoarding but making sure I have the basic needs are covered in case of another lock down. Just dry goods, flour. yeast, sugar, tea,  dry beans and canned veggies and meats.  I of course have bought plenty of dog food for the pets as well.  We all need the TP of course.  I don't think it will come to that but we never expected this in the first place.  These are things I would buy anyway so they will get used.  I think for those of us who live alone and on a fixed income it is better to be prepared than not.  At least we are saving money not buying smokes, there was a day that would be at the top of the list but not anymore. Something good has come out of the bad.

Update imnotw

Our numbers are increasing slowly , but increasing . More things are opening in regard to travel .  They say they don't think we are in for a fourth wave . I'm hoping not too . We now have nursing shortages and bed closures . It continues to be a mixed bag of some people wearing masks , others not . People do ask if you are vaccinated , some will only associate with those that are . We  must remember vaccinated or not , any of us could be carriers , and any one of us could still get it but those vaccinated just may not get as sick . The stats here are looking good for those who are double dose vaccinated .

I am thinking of those in other countries who are still having huge struggles . Lockdowns  are no fun but if they are necessary to beat this monster then we can do it ! I was not a stranger to wearing masks before covid or staying home before covid when people were sick but eventually it got to me too . A few weeks break has helped and of course the hair cut .

Kris my dear grandma used to have quite a grocery store in her basement . Her and grandpa always had enough food stored for an extra months emergency .

Stay safe everyone .,

Well my friend just called me whose brother in law caught Covid in spite of being fully vaccinated died Saturday night. Just goes to show that precautions should still be followed especially for those in the high risk group like he was 😢

Sorry for the terrible loss . Every life matters .

We just have so many mixed messages here .

It's best I think to be on the cautious side a little while longer .   I'm sure however,  there will be a risk for death for many , and for quite some time just as the flu is still a risk for many .

I do not however live in fear like I did in the beginning and I do go out . I'm just mindful as best I can .

Masks here are only compulsory in taxis, buses and in most health care settings . Some businesses also are still asking people to wear masks .

I'm not sure how many now have double doses but its fairly high and people are continuing to see that the benefits seem to be outweighing  the risks and still getting vaccinated .

That is really scary! I am high risk on several levels. I think I will exercise more caution, than I have been, lately.  My condolences to your friend, @jillar

This Covid Delta variant is really scary. The virus has managed to mutate enough to survive the vaccine. Many fully vaccinated people are now contracting the virus, and becoming sick with it.  Some vaccinated folks have even died, as evidenced by @jillar’s post above. I remember them telling us, that after we are fully vaccinated, we could still get it, but would likely be asymptomatic, and probably would not have enough of a viral load to transmit it to others. Apparently, the virus is smarter than the experts. If one contracts the Delta variant, it’s way more transmissible than the original virus, and results in a much higher viral load than the initial Covid virus. I, for one, am going to  stay in, as much as possible, and wear an N-95 mask, whenever I go anywhere, where there are people, inside, or out. As a medical professional, I would urge all of my fellow quitters to do the same. We are an especially vulnerable group, since most of us smoked for many years. I guarantee you, while our lung function has improved, since we quit smoking, our lungs are not as good as new. So, please be vigilant! Mask up, employ social distance, use your hand sanitizer.  Stay safe, everyone.

Well my California mom and dad are back in quarantine after their son and granddaughter who are visiting from Hawaii tested positive yesterday.

They had gone with friends for a few days to a lake house and they all came back sick 😞

Luckily no one is severe and I'm just hoping it stays that way and that my California mom and dad don't end up sick too 😞

@Katgirl, yes they are fully vaccinated as is their son! And their BIL who just died was too 😞

Their son was set to fly back to Hawaii today and since his daughter is too young to be vaccinated she needed a Covid test in order to fly.

When I talked to her Friday for her birthday she had told me that they had come back sick from their lake trip and I heard her granddaughter coughing (dryly) in the background and was already worried but she said they had found black mold in the air conditioner so it was probably that but nope. AND they were staying with them of course so I'm just hoping they don't get sick too.

Her son and granddaughter are now quarantining in a friend's motorhome for at least ten days 😞

I am sorry to hear that your family is sick with Covid. It is still so scary out there. We are supposed to go to a dinner event tomorrow evening, but I am thinking about skipping it. You can’t wear a mask while you eat, so….. With this very virulent delta variant running rampant, throughout the country, I am going back to full precaution mode, even though I am fully vaccinated. My fear is that things will never return to normal. People will start marking time by referring to things as “before COVID” and “after COVID”. It’s nuts!

Had to go to Urgent Care this morning for S/S of Diverticulitis, after an awful night of severe pain. While waiting to be called, an elderly couple walked in. The wife told the Registrar that she and her husband were both sick. The Registrar  asked if they had any signs or symptoms of COVID. She says, Yes, that’s why we’re here. I immediately recoiled, and made sure to stay far away. Turns out they had both been vaccinated with J and J. The husband had been tested already, last Thursday, and they came in for results. WTF? They were not tested there, but apparently use the Urgent Care as their PCP. Why not call for the results? Turns out, hubby was positive, and I imagine she was, too, since she had symptoms. She had not been tested. So, that was my morning…..
