Woke up this morning really wanted a cigarette, took a shower got dressed made my coffee. Still wanting a cigarette. Keep telling myself. It will pass

It will Linda, keep yourself occupied, and your mind off smoking. I remember those days, when it seemed smoking was all I thought about, and wondered if it would ever end. It does, but you need to stay focussed and determined. Better days will come for sure.

I think I expected the healing to happen a lot more quickly and that I would notice things changing every day. I just underestimated how subtle and slow the change process is. Reflecting on it later, it all made sense because I had repeated these connections between my actions and smoking every single day for decades so it's only logical it takes time to re-establish new connections with your daily routine once you quit.

I'm just glad the nonsmoker changes didn't take decades 🙂 Keep moving forward Linda because you're making progress whether you realize it every day or not.

Its not you wanting a cigarette Linda, its your addiction wanting a fix! Keep denying it. You are in charge, not your addiction 🤗

@Linda I hope it passed and that you are doing better.

I'm late on this, but I wanted to give you my two cents. You mentioned coffee.  If you drink decafe, ignore this!

Part of my quit plan is to cut my caffeine intake in half.  I got this from one of Joel's video's.  As he explains it, caffeine has more power when we take the nicotine out of our system.

I really don't understand it exactly, but I will send you a link, if I can find it.  It has helped me to cut back on the amount of caffeine I'm using.  I'm not as nervous, and can handle the cravings better when I'm not.

Hang in there, Linda. This addiction can sneak up on you out of nowhere sometimes. Don't do what I did last week and cave to the crave. We didn't get this far overnight, so I know now that it takes time to heal.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
