HI!

We have the same situation here each winter. Just had 13 inches earlier this week. For the last thirty plus years I have always put back enough cigarettes to get me through a week of being snowed in. We live way out of town and it has happened before. There have always been things that we make sure we have on hand over the winter. Beer and cigarettes were always at the top of my list. I quit drinking about three years ago, so I don't keep that anymore. I've Stopped smoking, so I had my wife get rid of the four packs of Marlboro reds for me. They may still be around, but I have no idea where. I would have to ask her and that would mean failure for me.

We are at about the same time in our quits. I'm not willing to tempt myself by keeping any cigarettes around.

Please don't go and get cigarettes because you think you might want to start smoking again while you are snowed in. It would be a step in sabotaging your own quit. If you don't have any on hand, that will give you time to think about what your doing. Just maybe enough time to save your quit! Lets keep moving forward and working on our quits! Lets not put any temptations in our way!

You can do this!

Just another one of those triggers that you'll have to go through to get past. You'll conquer this one too and then it'll be easier next time 🤗

I've yet to meet a Happy Relapser ....

You would only wish you had kept that quit ,and be angry with yourself ....

If you didn't want to quit ....you wouldn,t be on the Train ...

NOPE ....stay strong ...you,ll be glad you did ...

It’s easy to create justifications to smoke:

·         There’s a big snowstorm coming

·         The holidays are approaching

·         My relatives are coming for a visit

·         I’m always cranky

The key is to stop looking for reasons to smoke and focus on the benefits that are just emerging, and will only get better with time.

Don’t let the addict voice in your head tell you that a cigarette will make things better.  It will only bring misery or worse.

Thanks everyone I know exactly what your saying is true been there done that. I got out of my house and took a drive along lake Huron, stopped and took a few pictures it was cold and beautiful. I have to admit I struggled passing a few places I could had stoped and got cigarettes especially after I almost it a deer. But I did not!!! Cant say I didn't want to but I did not. I don't know if this statement is appropriate for the sight if is not I'm sorry  it has to do with something BKP said about justification  it goes like this( Justification is like masturbation your only screwing yourself) Hope this does not offend anyone but it is so true when it comes tosmoking

I did not have a good morning, talked to a friend and felt a little better. Decided to take my dog and go to the lake shore like I said in an earlier post..Had a nice drive took some great pictures and came home Now I'm city here feeling down and a little depressed. What the neck??I'm usually a pretty positive person. I do not like this side of me right now. It doesn't make sense to me.

Its all a part of the process Linda, you won't always. I'm sure this pandemic doesn't help either so just be extra kind to yourself and know it will all be worth it in the end 🤗

Hi @Linda I'm no expert, but being an ex-smoker is a very emotional roller coaster ride! Every emotion I chuck it as withdrawals, even the happy moments. When I couldn't explain why I felt a particular way I just told myself it was a withdrawal. I was an emotional smoker, everything I did was with a smoke. So I say all this to say, cry, scream, stomp your feet, eat something sweet, or whatever you want. You are the boss, you control the situation to smoke or not. Hang tough! You got this!! As a passenger on this Train, we are on the same no-smoking team Ok? 😁💪👏🧁😇

Well we did get the bad weather!!! Winter weather advisory out. Going to be along day home. Glad I did not get cigarettes yesterday, because I would be smoking. Them as I write this. The struggle not to is to much sometimes. My will power seems to get weaker instead of stronger. My daily struggle and rant

That's the thing about willpower: it's fickle and unreliable.

Commitment is rock-solid and dependable.

Leaning on my commitment when my willpower reserve was running low saved my quit during the early days.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
