So I am trying a garden this year (I might be overzealous as I look at the area my hubs rototilled) I have already planted 3 rows of corn, over the next few days I will be planting carrots, onions, radishes, tomatoes, green peppers, watermelon, pumpkins and peas. I also bought a blueberry bush trying to figure out where to put that one though.....hopefully I will get something out of this work sigh if nothing happens I will never plant again just saying....

Dot some spinach in various places. Where it does phenomenally well without effort is the place to put in the blueberry bush. The second best place is in a sunny spot real close to where you like to sit and look at the garden. Handy for snack breaks!

if things get going I am not much of a green thumb the last time I had a garden (18 years ago) it was only a little productive we will see lol

Word of warning: Blueberry doesn't usually do well unless you've prepared the soil (in most places (most but not all))

 

Read up online about high acidity and blueberries.

 

The Sarge killed dozens of bushes before he figured it out ... but figure it out he did.

That might keep the bunnies out, but I don't think the deer will have much of a problem hopping over it. Not trying to be a know-it-all, just curious. …. Love your garden.  :)

the deer around here typically will avoid it for the most part too close to house I think I just making it harder for them at least not making it easy pickings like if there was no fence

I remember when I was a kid they use to use propane cannons to scare the deer out of the pea patches. The cannon would go off on a timer or something. .. LOUD.  …. I'm sure they still use them today somewhere.  :)

Try some peat moss around your blueberry bush. Give the watermelon and pumpkin vines lots of room.

The Sarge uses the Rule Of Five that Grandpappy Sarge taught him waaaaay back in 1974 and it is this: Plant at least FIVE TIMES what you think you want/need and divide it up in the following:

 

(1) One share gets trashed by weather (hail, flood/washout, drought, etc.)

(2) One share gets eaten by the bugs and pests.

(3) One share gets devoured by the critters (birds, squirrels, rabbits, deer, etc.)

(4) One share gets blighted by disease, mildew, rot, mold, etc.

(5) Whatever remains, is yours to do with as you wish.  This you will have to share with friends, family, neighbors, and coworkers.

My blueberry bush is still alive :) my tomato plants are doing well my pepper plants are still alive and doing ok but I have not seen anything else pop up yet If this bush lives I am going to get another one and plant it next to this one

How you keep them rabbits from taking off with the loot? Can't they go under the fence?
