Just got back from a "lunch date" with my oldest granddaughter and when the time come to pay, my card was refused!!!

How embarrassing!..Good thing she had a little cash with her,as I didnt have quite enough to cover it, or we would be in the back room doing dishes right now  :( ...

I really need to remember to grab some cash before I leave the house.I have become too dependent on my card working..and ..I only carry the 1 (credit/debit tied to checking account)...all others I leave at home..I dont use them..

Before I got home, I stopped by the local bank and used the ATM and my balance was what I expected it to be in both my savings and checking...but when I tried to withdraw some cash, it kept declining it.

As I come into the house, I hear my answering machine beeping (yes, I still  have one of those..lol) as it turns out it was the fraud department of the bank and I needed to call them back and confirm purchases I made in Bangladesh  and  Great Britain among numerous States and web sites...Needless to say, I didnt make those purchases, so I just got done cancelling my cards...

the good news is, the fraud dept. caught it early, and even though they tried to use it in MANY transactions , less than $5.00 in purchases were approved...

The bad news is, at 7am on Monday morning my wife and I will be at the local hospital anxiously awaiting the arrival of our granddaughter..and with today being Sat. I am stuck with the little bit of cash I had before the card got shut down and cant get more until the banks open and I go there in person...

it could have been worse, but just the inconvenience of it p!sses me off !

Ok..just venting...now I will return you to your regularly scheduled topics  :)

Nothing more frustrating, good job the bank caught it in time, the bank I work for are really quick in spotting potentional fraud too.  But it's such an inconvenience, I don't carry cash neither, work with plastic!  Exciting events on Monday to look forward to thoughxx

Sorry doesn't say enough. It sucks that BAD people rip off hard working joes just cause they "have computer skills". Glad they didn't put you in the poor house. Congrats for monday.

Sorry Joe, to hear about this.  It's frustrating not being able to access what is yours.  Being a target of fraud is no picnic either.  My bank cancelled my card after the Target fiasco and I don't remember being notified.  The card they reissued never arrived either.  I found out in the grocery store with a line behind me.  Yeah, it can be embarrassing when your card is cancelled.   Good thing your bank is local and they can get you a card in no time.  Look on the bright side, your bank is on top of things and like you said, Could have been worse!

What a pain but just be glad they caught it as it could have wiped you out!  I'm sure you are anxiously waiting for Monday!

Thanks for the responses...

you are right Fay..they could have done some damage...

last week I transferred quite a bit of money to those accounts. My "other" house needs a roof and a new furnace, which I just got estimates for and at "this" house I am putting in a blacktop drive and just got an estimate for a small expansion to the upstairs (adding a full length shed dormer)..so I transfer quite a bit so that the projects I decided to  go forward with, I had the money for a deposit on  hand.

.

Yes Ross...I am looking forward to Mondays event!..

.

And for any of you who work in banking..I thank you for your diligence. I am sure a computer program "kicks out" suspicious transactions to be brought to your attention, but if it was ignored, a lot of people would lose plenty of money..

My Bank is locally owned and operated with about 6 branches total.I really like the personal service I get.

Hey Joe - I feel your pain - had my purse stolen last week - so know what it is like to have no cards . Best of luck Monday - and have a great time with grand daughter number one :-)
