Hi Guys,

Thank you for your wonderful greetings. I have stopped the patches today, so feeling a little blah.  I am still using lozenges.  It feels so nice to be welcomed maybe this will be my sticky quit.

Hi Gabby!!!

You can do this!

Like someone else mentioned, I would highly recommend Allen Carr's book The Easy Way to Stop Smoking.  It is helpful to get your mind thinking positively and looking forward to being a non-smoker instead of dreading not being able to smoke.

Post often and call out if you need us!

Welcome to the Board!  You have a wonderful smoke free life ahead. :)

My name is Gabby.  I stopped smoking on the 4 April.  I have been reading and lurking for a while, thought it was time to introduce myself. I have had 3 serious quits and this is number 4. I have trouble maintaining the quit I get up to about 150 days and then the old just have one it will fix everything starts. I am here to learn to maintain my quit for longer.  Thanks Marti for reaching out to me and making me a friend.  As you can see I am from New Zealand I am not sure what time it is now, but it's the afternoon here.  Nice to meet you all.   Gabby :D

good to have you for this ride gabby, i look forward to your posts.

Hi Guy,

Still hanging in there.  Going with out patches was a little hard, but now I need to come off the lozenges.  Time seems to go so slow when you quit smoking.  Thank you for all your kind comments.

OMG tonight is my last lozenge no more nicotine for me, I can feel the panic setting in.  I have read Allen Carr's book more than 3 times.  This is where things start to go wrong for me.

It's just a state of mind when you let panic set in because getting rid of the nicotine is not going to hurt you.  Stay close to the board and remember you're a non-smoker.  You don't need cigarettes for anything.

Only you can see that (besides the mods).  It's a box that you checked when you registered or sometime afterwards on how you found us.

Try and remember the lozenge is only nicotine. It will be out your system in 72 hours and it's a climb to freedom, no need for panic. Try and get some fruit juice and sip it periodically, the nicotine leaving your system can cause some blood sugar lows (which people take as a crave) and fruit juice combats that feeling.  Stay close to the board and maybe make a post on the quit smoking section Gabby, let people support you.

What you are doing is an amazing gift to yourself and is more then worth some mental discomfort. You are literally saving your life and your finances too based on NZ policies on smoking!  Try looking at the whyquit.com stories if you're feeling weak. Learning why we are getting rid of it meant I was able to mentally rebuff the urge to cave and smoke...only thing that works for a lot of people is the education side.  Kinda gives you the mental ability to fight back.

Hi,

Well it's day 2 and tomorrow will be day 3 with no nicotine, it's 11 o'clock and nearly time for bed, and boy I am glad today is over.  I feel like I have been screaming silently inside today.  I just keep thinking one more day and it will be easier ( know the 3rd day is the worse)  I just wish I had never smoked at all.  And why do I keep putting myself through this.  Check in with you guys tomorrow.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
