I think I'll leave for a while

Recommended Posts

Ev can quit and then smoke, quit again and smoke again, quit over and over and smoke over and over and it won't change a damn thing about my quit. Serial relapses don't make smoking attractive to me so whatever ya wanna do Ev fine by me. Put me down as "indifferent".

Evelyn,

It is hard to keep a new quit when your life is in crisis, I know, I've been there.

I know you want to quit or you would not be here to begin with.

So how are things now? Are you ready to try again?

I will support you no matter what happens and I will not judge.

So please don't go away, you are loved here.

Each member will support you with what they think will help you the best, it is up to you to take the advice you believe will help you the most and use it.

Please don't give up.

I get it Evelyn, the style that some folks use to communicate can really rub some people the wrong way.

But they all know what they are talking about. We have all been there. Do we all have the same life problems? Of course not. But just because we have different struggles does not mean we don't understand. We all have had to conquer Stress, pain, loss, and every other emotion and we have done it without smoking.

Early in my quit my 16 year old cat died. Did I want to smoke? Of course I did. Was I stressed, sad, lonely, hurt, devastated and many other emotions? Yes. Did I smoke? No.

If I had smoked The people who are saying things you don't like would have said the same thing to me. There will always be a reason to make you want to smoke.

We all thought we were more addicted than the others around us who managed to quit. We all thought we had more stress than the next guy to overcome. We were wrong and now we know it. Hopefully one day you will too.

No matter what you are going to have to learn to deal with stress and emotion without smoking. We all have struggles and pain just because they are not the same as yours does not mean we don't get it. We get it Evelyn. We also get what freedom feels like and we all want you to join us. Freedom rocks!

As always we want the best for you.

+ 1 billion times and over again !!!

Quitting smoking is not an act.  It's a process and your learning.   We all are.

The deep down root unfortunately is laying blame at every door but our own, we are responsible for what we do, we control what we do and its all so easy to say, Well because of ...I... and she said so.....  Evelyn no-one judges anyone on here but unfortunately some of the replies you will like some replies you wont, just the same in real life, you can either listen to all the different opinions or not, its entirely up to you.  I have a lot of emotional problems in my life, I have money problems, I have problems with my children, health issues etc etc the list could go on and I could use each and every single one as an excuse to smoke, but that is just what it would be an excuse.  I do not want to smoke, its not easy, the path is littered with lots of different turns which would allow me to say, Oh fck it I'll smoke, everyone will understand.  You will keep on smoking and quitting on a daily basis for ever more if you do not make a conscious decision to actually quit, and allow the discomfort and thats all it is discomfort of not smoking to take you on your journey to a healthier life.  The decision is yours not ours, we can only try and support in any way we think is best.

Evelyn !!!!  I am glad to see you here.  I was really praying that you wouldn't leave.

Your doing what we all do.  Believe me, I have had my butt handed to me in a hand basket plenty of times and may even have it handed to me again.

Quitting smoking is a process.  It's not just one step to get there..... (although some people do get there in just one step.  but we don't like them.  ha ha ha ha, just kidding)

Please keep going. You are doing great.  I know it doesn't feel like it, but every time you don't put something in your mouth and set it on fire, your beating it.  I am so proud of you.

Right now I'm crying; I wanna share something early morning I wanted to smoke soo bad, but said nope went cycling and realised that ONLY because I had money again I was looking for excuses to run to the store for a pack. I didn't! Cycled half an hour outside.

Now this afternoon I'm in tears for God knows what for reason  - old not processed pain - but still not lighting a cig. I'm crying my eyes out and was soooo angry at all of you for judging me kicking me in the butt!!! REALLY pissed me off.

But I know you're all right. I need to process, mourn, without cigarette... DEAL without a fag!!! I may cry my eyes out but I won't allow myself to start making up excuses.

Last Friday everything backfired - I smoked, lost control and cut myself... HECK was even suicidal!!! But I got myself together and thats the reason why I felt so mad about you guys pickin on me. But I realise NOW smoking is never an option, the self injury is a work in progress to heal from.

But what ticked me off was all of you fallen over me, while I just got out the dark. So I kicked back, said nasty things, threatened to leave.

NO there's never an excuse to SMOKE, I just had to realise that. Because I was the number 1 excuse maker!

Evelyn, we all are excuse makers.

I don't know a whole lot about the cutting thing, but I do know that we were all hell bent on hurting ourselves, masking emotions with smoking.  We didn't value ourselves enough to stop killing ourselves.  We had to make the decision to stop.  And yes, it's hard. I still struggle with it.  But it can be done.

I was having a hard time yesterday and this is what a friend wrote to me.  word for word:  "As long as you think smoking may provide some thing positive, your quit will be in danger.  When you understand and internalize that the whole concept of enjoying smoking is a huge lie created in your brain by the addiction, is when you will know that you will not ever smoke again."

It takes time to internalize that.  Give yourself that time. Give yourself a chance.

You're right, It needs time to land hat smoking is not a 1st need anymore, hell that nicotine is a fundamental need anymore. I dunno what internalize means but I can guess the meaning - conditioning new values about your health.

Evelyn, your not alone in this.  You have each and every one of us to help you through this.  Although we can't help you with the other issues, we can help you with not smoking.  And I firmly believe that when you quit and stay quit, you will realize how strong you truly are.  And that may help you in the other areas of your life.

You can do this.  And all of us have your back on this.

Your not alone.

So please talk to us BEFORE you light up again.  Give us the chance to help you. That's all we ask.

Glad to see your still here Evelyn, sometimes we have to be cruel to be kind, we all want you to keep your quit, seeing you go round and round on a merrygoround is frustrating for us too!  But you have to be strong, no more excuses...hear me,...no more, quit and stay quit and you will never look back .

Im sorry you think we "lecture" you... thats the defensive way of thinking, but in all reality, we are "supporting you and your quit" because we care, and we want to see you succeed. There will always be a gazillion excuses " why" you smoked, and that can apply to anyone struggling with a quit. I said it before, and i will say it again... "Do you want to quit"? This is a serious and deadly addiction.... do you want freedom from it, or do you want it to continue to control you? Once you stop taking the easy way out and smoking, and actually fight for it HARD, that makes you stronger to succeed. "failure is not going to kill you, but not succeeding might ". one of my favorite quotes... I really hope you beat this addiction. You CAN CAN CAN do this!! :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
