Greets from a rainy Dublin on Oíche Shamhna!

Greetings NOPErs... today is Halloween but lets look at the Celtic festival of Samhain... or "Summers End"... it was a time to call on your ancestors to celebrate the end of the harvest and the beginning of winter, or the "darker half" of the year. Traditionally, it is celebrated from 31 October to 1 November. It was believed that the Aos Sí (spirits, fae) needed to be soothed so that the people and their livestock survived the winter. Offerings of food and drink were left outside for them, and in Ireland turnips would be carved into faces (much like pumpkins, and because pumpkins hadn't be discovered yet). At Samhain the vale between this world and the other was thinned and the souls of the dead were also thought to revisit their homes seeking hospitality. Feasts were held, at which the souls of dead family were called to attend and a place set at the table for them. Part of the festival involved people going door-to-door in costume (or in disguise), often reciting verses in exchange for food. The costumes may have been a way of imitating, and disguising oneself from, the Aos Sí.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
