I am five in a half months into my quit and I have only had two migraines.  That is amazing!  I usually have one or two a month and to go from that to two in six months is something short of a miracle.  This is just another perk to my quit smoking lifestyle!  Ya!!

 

If you are still a smoker and reading this, quitting is soooo worth it!  It takes some work, and is hard at times, but the payoff is so much better.

My ex wife used to get cluster headaches, serious migraines that used to make her crawl in a corner and cry.

 

I just found out that she quit about a year ago and my grandkids tell me that her headaches have practically gone away just like yours.

 

Perhaps smoking is partially responsible for migraines.

 

This is new information and should be made public, are there any other members who have had this wonderful revelation?

I've not had migraines before but have family who suffer from them. 

 

Another great reason to quit smoking.  :)

I'm with Jenny - do not suffer personally but my wife does... So I've seen how debilitating they can be sometimes.

 

Just another of the many (infinite?) benefits of not smoking!

I've had two brain scans due to the severity and debilitating nature of my headaches in the past. I would have a headache 6 days out of 7 for months on end.

 

Quitting smoking easily refuced that to 2 days in 7. And quitting caffeine has reduced it to maybe 1 in 14 days !!!

 

Our bodies don't like poisons!

Not smoking related, but...

 

An acquaintance of mine said that he used to suffer frequent migraines - like every couple months.  He said that 6-7 months ago, he stopped having aspartame - no sugar free soda, no sugar free gum, no artificial sweeteners at all  etc.  He hasn't had a headache or migraine since.

 

II you are looking for relief, perhaps you can try that in addition to being a non-smoker. :)

I used to have the WORST sour stomach.  Always felt queasy.  Now I take the occasional tums but that is nothing compared to the way I used to live off of them.

Seems like everything gets better when we quit :yu:

I got my first migraine when I was like 10 years old and it runs in the family, Im not sure I will ever get rid of them totally.  I also get the aura...booo.  To have them reduced in frequency though truly has been so amazing.  By everyones responses it definitely does seem like there is a correlation.

When I was a kid I would get migraine equivalents and after testing, my pediatrician narrowed the cause down to the preservative, sodium nitrites which are found in soda drinks, hot dogs, lunch meat etc.  My Mom removed all of this from my diet and they went away.

 

I never had the actual headaches but experienced the "aura".  My parents first discovered I had this when I told my Mom that everybody looked like Alice In Wonderland when she ate that cake that made her neck stretch.

As an adult, I really limit foods with this preservative as much as I can.  Several years ago I drank a glass of red wine.  The next morning I had a problem with my vision being distorted.  I looked on the bottle and it contained nitrites that are natural to red wine.  Needless to say, I haven't had red wine since.

 

A lady that I used to work with, her husband suffered from cluster headaches and they have about be the worst possible pain somebody can be in and nothing helps.  I watched this documentary about this guy who suffered from them and the only thing that helps him not get them is the Psilocybin he harvests from the mushrooms that he grows.  Never one to use drugs, he was very hesitant but he said it was either that or he was going to kill himself.  They were that bad and nothing would help him.  I can't find the full documentary but it's pretty interesting.

I'm a sufferer of migraines. Up until about a week ago, I hadn't had a migraine in months. I used to get them at least once a month, sometimes more. I never noticed it until now, but maybe it is because I quit smoking! Huh, very cool. I think I'll remain smoke-free then because migraines are terrible!

MQ I'm gonna look into the preservatives link.  I do tons of home coming from scratch but every once in a while I don't.  Thanks for the idea.  I do stay away from nitrates in lunch meats and hot dogs almost exclusively, the cancer link bugs me.  I'm not on my computer but if you Google migraine aura and click images mine are a lot.like what you see there.  It's a round or semi circle flashy thing that progresses in size before fading out in the peripheral.  Lasts about 30 minutes on average.   Still have not looked up the mushrooms but it sounds interesting.   

 

I'm hoping too my hormones are leveling out too.  All the exercising I'm doing can't hurt and I've almost dropped my 20 lbs quit smoking weight.

Absolutely!

 

I hate smoking. Never, ever will I put my body through that again.
