Feel better soon Jackie!  Whenever I am sick now, it is much better than as a smoker.  You can't reverse the damage, but you can prevent further damage and reduce symptoms.  (((Jackie)))

What Colleen said.

Smoking will only make things worse hun. I know how frustrating this must be for you, but just take it easy and rest up. Hopefully you'll feel better in no time! Remember, smoking fixes nothing. Big hugs.

Nice to know our wonderful NHS doctors are amazing and sympathetic the country over! Divs, way to inspire people to keep their quit :(  But ok, you have your quit intact and I'm sorry yougot a lung infection, that sucks. How did it come about, did he actually give any useful info on that?  Rest, antibiotics and you should be back on your feet with the most excellent circulation getting to them now you are a non smoker :) ((jackie)). x

So sorry to hear you aren't feeling well.  :(

Damage may have been done, but some healing takes place as well.  Hopefully the antibiotics will work quickly.

Did they say what the infections is from?  Is it a smoking related infection or something else, like pneumonia?

Infections are caused by biological pathogens[1], not smoking.

Easy Peasy

FOOTNOTE:

[1] bacteria, virus, fungus, prion, and the like

HINT: non-smokers get infections, too.

sarge is right infections are biological and caused by viruses and bacteria, smoking does make one worse especially if it is in the lungs which is why it is a good thing you do not smoke imagine how you would feel if you did smoke? Hope you feel better soon......IMO the doctor is a jerk why say that? quitting smoking is beneficial never a negative.......sometimes I wonder about the bedside manner of some Drs.....not that they should sugarcoat everything but seriously accentuate the positive a little. Yes sometimes there is irreversible damage done but not always and your body can heal up a bit when you quit.......

Thank you all so much for your lovely replies, you all don't realise how much you have boosted me, I must admit I was taken aback when he came at me with that retort, mind you he also had a rant about sick lines too, must have been a bad day for him, when I went into see my boss, he told me his mum was the same when she stopped smoking then she went on to have a heart attack Cheers a bunch Boss, seems to be a bad day for them all.  I am so relieved that my smoking days are long long gone only really wish that I had done it sooner.  Just hate feeling unwell, im not a stay in bed moaning type of person..xxxx

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
