I read the smoking threads but I played the games... lots and lots of the games... oh wait... nothings changed. :D  ... nah, I comment on and even start the serious stuff now, I was scarred to before because I felt like I didn't deserve to or have the right but you know what, hindsight is fantastic... every opinion adds something, even if you don't agree with it, there is a value to it.

Are you asking me?  Hanging in but so ready to give in to the crave.  I'm so crabby, my husband is hiding.  Thought I would feel better by now.  The days aren't going fast enough.  I haven't been able to be on the site because I have been busy with Dr. appts. with my Dad.  Takes a lot of my time but you can't smoke at the Drs. so it is a good thing right now.

Hi Linda, those craves are totally normal at your stage and unfortunately the only way past them is to go through them. You are starting what we call WTF week when pretty bad cravings can sneak up out of nowhere. After the first month quit though the craves will begin to get farther and farther apart. Did you know they say it only takes three days to get a habit but three weeks to break that habit? Thinking of that helped me through that knarly third week.

You are doing great so be super proud of yourself :)

@Linda Thomas sorry your tied up with doctor's appointments for your dad. Hope he is being nice and appreciative, or at least less nasty than normal. The craves are normal... that first week is the worst, the whole first month is hard. At the moment everything is a trigger because it is the first time you are doing things without smokes and nicotine in some time. It really, truely does get easier. OK so you body has now physically detoxed from the nicotine but the urges and craves now are emotional/psychological its the nicotine receptors telling you to smoke because they aren't being feed... your in the process of re-wiring your brain... but you have the power to control it and only you. Just keep noping, I love seeing you nope each day, its only 24 hours you are promising yourself that you wont smoke and you can so go 24 hours without a smoke, you did it yesterday, you did it the day before... just keep going one day at a time. And if it gets really bad and you want to yell and scream and just loose it post on here... even if its just to get it out so your not yelling at hubby... we have all done it at one point or another... i'll do it again for sure... let us have your back if you need it.

Boy that explains  exactly how I feel.

My dad keeps falling and he can't get up.  Mom

calls the rescue squad and they pick him up but he refuses to go to the hospital.  He has ripped the skin open on both arms and is in a mess.  Of course he wanted me to take care of them but I refused and took him  to the doctor.   I actually handle my dad much better when I am crabby.  It is a good thing that I took him because he had to see a specialist, who was able to arrange for a visiting  nurse to come to the house to dress the wounds.

Thanks for being there.

Linda, just one other tip while I remember it. A turning point for me was when I reframed what I wanted to achieve in my head.

I started out looking at it as I didn't want to smoke. That was really difficult and irritating because it wasn't true 100% of the time. It is also really hard to protect that negative.

Once I started to view it as I really want to be smoke free it became a little easier, because now I was protecting that objective and that one cigarette was the enemy not a seduction against something that wasn't true all the time.

Just in case it helps.

And do keep coming back here. A lot or as much as is useful. Shout, scream, cry, bitch, whinge, hopefully laugh sometimes. Whatever you feel like and nothing is too much trouble. We've been there.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
