Has anyone had this, I'm around 7 weeks quit, just over a month anyway. I have to keep clearing my throat, or do a pathetic little cough thing, it just won't clear and I'm not sure if it smoking related, a cold or maybe some hayfever thing?

If it is a quit smoking thing, could you clear it or how long did it take? Not bad just really annoying me after 4/5 days now.

Your throat and lungs are healing and it's very common among quitters and is referred to as a non-smoker's cough.  :)   Yes, I had this as well and it lasted for quite sometime after I quit.  My throat felt very sensitive and I could really feel it when I tilited my head back and stretched my throat (if that makes any sense).  Some people will get it and some won't.  Some get it instantly like I did while others get it months down the road.  Some never get it.  Whether it's related to smoking, who knows.  Could be allergies, a virus etc.  When in doubt, see a doc to get some peace of mind.

It's likely due to the gunk working it's way out of your lungs and dripping down your throat... going down to your tummy before getting pooed out!

Lovely.

Would you prefer it stay in your lungs or belly?!

I think there's something quite poetic about it being crapped out of ones arsehole! Seems appropriate to me!

Lol @ Rob. Gross, but true!

Yup, I'm pretty sure I had this for a bit after I quit Marti. It's been a while, so I don't always remember what happened early on. I do recall some of the changes I had to go through to "cleanse myself." I think clearing your throat is your body's way of cleansing your lungs. It should go away soon. If it doesn't within 2-3 weeks, that's when I'd seek medical help. It may just be allergies at that point though.

Be careful not to "blame" everything on your quit.  If it persists ...might be good to get it checked out by a doc.

Smoking masks alot of other issues.

Keep on keepin on.

The advice currently on UK TV is that if you've had a cough for more than 3 weeks to go and see a doctor.  obviously we expect it as we are healing, but I always endorse getting real world advice from someone who can examine you in the flesh.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
