Like most people quitting my first morning thought was to smoke. Instead of smoking I would log into the quit smoking website and Pledge NOPE just for that day. This I’m sure helped me not to obsess about having a smoke in the morning since it firmly set my intention in place.

This has gone the same way for me morning after morning, month after month. Although this week I noticed I’m forgetting to Pledge first thing in the morning. I do usually log in at some point and Pledge but finally after so long I don’t wake up and think of smoking.

This is no big deal to the average person but to a newbie it may be the ultimate victory. If we have any newbies thinking things will never get better, please believe they will given enough time. The trick is to just NOPE one day at a time until they do. As boring as that sounds.

Perfect GITW, boring or not, it is a powerful tool. State your intention and stick with it for 24 hours.

That can't be that much of a massive deal can it?

Viva La NOPE !!!

Great post Givvy... and we have welcomed lots of newbies and re-ups in the past couple of days so this post is perfectly timed.

For everyone just starting out, as bad as it might seem it is going to get so much better. I've clawed my way to the 6 month mark with a daily NOPE and a daily promise to myself and to everyone here who has held my hand and propped me up and pushed me along when I have needed it that for the next 24hours I will not smoke... i only have to focus on the next 24 hours... nothing beyond that. NOPE isn't for everyone, some of us don't need or use it but for those of us who do it is a vital tool in our arsenal to be rid of this addiction. So every morning I quit for 24hours... that's it... I quit for just 24 hours, no more, no less... and every day those 24 hours have got easier and easier than the one before.

So just NOPE and promise yourself you wont smoke for the day... then in the morning NOPE again... and repeat.... it is amazing how powerful that little promise to yourself made infront of and with all your peers can be... You can do this.

Great post GITW.  I too am now seeing where I do not have a crave or thought of smoking when I first get up in the morning and through out the day it is getting much better.  I am a true believer in the daily "NOPE" pledge.   I admit at first I thought it a bit hokey but I found out that pledging "NOPE" truly helped me on this journey -- it is not only a commitment to yourself to not take a puff but in a way for me realizing that I am an addict to nicotine and have to be on my guard each day, but as stated it is getting much easier as time goes by....
