If you really think about it, the only time a cigarette really tasted good is......never.

We only smoked to stop withdrawl symptoms.

Because of this, we mentally associated the taste of smoke with stopping withdrawl symptoms.....from this came our ideas of "a good cigarette".

The reality of smoking is that the actual taste of tobacco was never very good, and most of us would never had smoked tobacco if it did not have any nicotine.

Funny how there is talk about cigarette flavors (especially some of the ones Camel made years ago) yet we all know smokers cannot taste worth a damn. It would be like trying to convince a mostly deaf person about how great a stereo sounds.

I didn't really taste anything, but maybe I would have if I ever switched brands.  The only time I tasted something is if I really licked my lips right after a cigarette.  You would lick that tar and could really taste it and boy was it nasty.

I can relate to this.  I think I had about 3 months quit prior to my sticky quit when I had a night of smoking.  I remember that first one and GROSS but I had another and thought EWWWW what am I doing, and then another YUCK.  Then the taste the next day, that feeling inside your throat, the smell of your clothes and hands, I shudder at the thought of it.  Boy am I glad I am not doing that anymore!!

Nope, on foggy cool mornings, my pipe by the fire place, so many other times and places,  Smell and taste are hooked together did you ever want to put a piece of dog shit in your mouth ?  That's is because it smelled like shit.  I smoked my pipe and the brand of cigarettes because they tasted and smelled good to me.

Just the truth for me

I could never taste any difference between brands.   I could differentiate between menthol or not but that was it.

I could only enjoy Marlboro Lights but would tolerate other brands if I had to.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
