I have twice a day Nortrilen anti depressivants which also helps with my quit I take it when I wake up and when the first works out the second around 2 pm but by bedtime I'm wide awake my nortrilen has done its job but I can't fall asleep lol.

I only use 2 valerian during the day so coming off goes easy while on nortrilen but when I try to go to bed I'm WIDE AWAKE due withdrawals I'm allowed to take the valerian a while but the dodos at night to fall asleep is way more then during the day....

Least it compensated lol did you guys all slept so horrible ?

Yes Evelyn it is quite common to have trouble sleeping when we quit. Good thing is as with most of the side effects we encounter when quitting, it is temporary.

I cut down my caffeine and did my best to concentrate on deep breathing while trying to fall asleep. My mind tends to go into overdrive when I am trying to sleep so that is why I put my focus on long deep breaths to help relax me kinda like counting sheep I guess.

It will get easier if you keep going :)

Hi Evelyn, I think most people have disturbed sleep patterns when they first give up, I know I do ... I don't have to get up for work, so I don't let it bother me, if I'm tired during the day I have a little nap, not sure how I would cope if I had work to go to

Yep sleep patterns or lack of sleep are very common for the first while but then you will sleep better than you ever have and won't need as much sleep as normal but will wake up more refreshed and with lots more morning energy I promise, baths with lavender oil before bed really helped me and meditation music or meditate before going asleep, no caffeine late at night.

My sleep was really broken. Now 11 days on I sleep OK but still waking up crazy early. Seems to be getting better

Completely normal Evelyn - I had crazy sleep patterns for quite a while but they have normalised now :)

I've always had trouble sleeping. When I was a smoker, my mind would race about how I'm killing myself, to the point of mini panic attacks.

I discovered something several weeks ago, after my eye surgery, when I couldn't see to do much. YouTube sleep meditations. There are several on there. They work quite well.

Evelyn, my sleep patterns were off at the beginning of my quit.  I fell asleep when going to bed but would wake up all hours of the night and would be wide awake.  I would read a book till I got sleepy again.  It took a while for things to even out.

I'm back to the smoking dreams and the broken sleep at the moment! But its all worth it because I don't smoke, am crabbit as hell and apparently am snarling like a rotweiller but hey I don't smoke.   :D

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
