Switcheroonie time - today's topic: Your Heroes

Florence Nightingale (happy 198th Birthday today)

- read one of those little cardboard cover ladybug books about her life as a real little tacker and for the first time in my life thought that women could be heros too.... she was amazing, the founder of modern nursing, a social reformer, a statitician and historian, years before her time in so many ways... all hail the Lady with the Lamp.... and the dispenser of this bit of advice that is worth living by:

^^ How frickin amazing was he... thumbing his nose at the church and the authorities because he had an idea and then he went about proving it... thank you Galileo.

Harper Lee

She wrote To Kill A Mockingbird.... one of may all time favourite novels... I saw the Gregory Peck film as a 7 year old and borrowed the book from the library and have read it every year since at least once for the rest of my life to date.... so thank you Harper Lee (not so impressed with the sequel, I know why it was hidden away)

It takes a greater dedication to principles than I think I would have.

Because I didn't get to use it before.

Isaac Newton - he invented gravity, without which we would be all floating in space. Another British invention, you're welcome world.

Posted (edited)

Invented? really? or just gave it a name.... bit like Straya init... sailing along and bump into a huge frickin lump of dirt..."OH look what we've discovered (dutch and french did it first but the dutch landed where dessert meets sea and when nah its shit and the frogs landed at a swamp and did the same) lets call is Australia and send all the riff raff here... let them escape from an island. Bravo well done chaps, ok off to name something else now..."

That said great choice.

Albert "Bert" Jacka - 1 VC & 2 MCs in WW1 - cos his heroism makes me proud to be an Aussie... and Charles Bean reckons it should have really been 4 VCs but the brass weren't fans. go here for more info: https://www.awm.gov.au/visit/exhibitions/fiftyaustralians/26

Just occassionally let one of these slide Jo

I promise you (but with my fingers crossed behind my back so it doesn't really count) that Sir Isaac invented gravity. :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
