Definitely not a master quitter. I've smoked for about 10 years on and off and am only almost 16 months quit. I loved going back after two months of quit. I'm 25 y/o and I'm surrounded by smokers wherever I go. Most of my friends are smokers. My quit story is, I never took myself seriously when I decided to quit. I think that is the only reason I haven't relapsed yet. Copying this from one of my previous threads: First thought: "Yet another pointless attempt to quit, after relapsing thrice, or maybe more - really? You know you're gonna relapse again, so why put yourself through all this again?" Somehow, I started off, but didn't promise myself much. I knew how to get past the first two months. The challenge was to keep the quit after that point. Two months: "Let's see, it's not like you're not gonna smoke forever, but keep goin', we'll see how long it lasts this time". Three months: "Okay, three is good, but let's not start dancing alright? Not quite yet. Let's see how long this could go on for." Over the next few months, I was fine without cigarettes, but challenging circumstances arise out of nowhere from time to time. Never refuse to say "Nope, I don't smoke anymore!" whenever you are offered cigarettes. Concentrating on getting past the day without a smoke is the best way to go. Life is better off without cigarettes. Quit, and never look back, and wait until you realize that this is one of the best decisions you have ever made in your entire life!

Happy for you! If you haven't already, then you will soon notice that this milestone is a turning point! Your mind would start "accepting" you as a non-smoker and would get used to it. Better days are yet to come, and you will soon notice that you are no longer a teary eyed woman! ;) Congratulations to you! Keep us posted.

Proud of you, Jess. We don't want to chuck a beautiful quit on a beautiful Christmas day do we? Or any other day, for that matter :P

Quitting smoking is indeed an achievement that took a lot of pain and effort, but I often thought about chucking all of that and going back(not to discourage the newbies), but I know I'll regret it. Thanks so much for all the replies!

So I have been staying up all night, stuck in the train of thoughts. It's Monday morning. To be honest, I don't remember much that has happened this year, or how the year went on, or if I had any control over it. This is one of those times where you just sit back and wonder what the heck is going on. You think you have it all sorted this time, but it keeps looping back to the same place. You thought everything was perfect. You had high hopes of the outcomes. You sometimes wind up in a place that gives you that old familiar feeling. You are left with no option but to acknowledge it. Sometimes you get scarred for lifetime. You try to walk away from that fact. You go all the possible ways to make yourself believe that it isn't true. You block your mind from going that way. Sometimes it becomes almost impossible to keep yourself from wondering how different, or how better things could have been if you could just go back in time and done certain things differently. How some permanent damages could have been completely avoided. You are forced to believe that if things get bad, they always get worse. Your mind. It plays games with you. It is your best friend and your worst enemy. You make peace with yourself, you make peace with the entire world. You may, or you may not. But you don't give up. You wake up tomorrow and keep going. Someone has written this in a better way: "For this is what we do. Put one foot forward and then the other. Lift our eyes to the snarl and smile of the world once more. Think. Act. Feel. Add our little consequence to the tides of good and evil that flood and drain the world. Drag our shadowed crosses into the hope of another night. Push our brave hearts into the promise of a new day. With love: the passionate search for truth other than our own. With longing: the pure, ineffable yearning to be saved. For so long as fate keeps waiting, we live on. God help us. God forgive us. We live on."

Hey quittrain! I haven't been around much lately, mostly because I've been busy, and to add up, my keyboard wasn't working. I know, lame reason! Sorry about that. Since the last few months, it's been restless days and sleepless nights. I got my last smoking dream some time last month. I will be a year quit in a week, and honestly, I don't feel so confident yet. Ofcourse, it got better over the months. It's just that from time to time, the thoughts of smoking hit me. It was definitely nowhere near enough to get me to smoke. But I was wondering if this is normal? Any thoughts are welcome!

I have not been around much lately, and I just wanted to stop by and say hi. I see that we got many new members on board, great job! It is good to see that more people are taking the initiative to try and break the shackles of smoke, nicotine, and tar. Looking forward for a chat room party this weekend! ;) Cheers to health and long happy lives!
