What she said! Didn't mean to panic you!

Interestingly I had no problem with the ban, it seemed like a step in the right direction and something that would help me quit when I was ready. The irony now is that to get into a pub you have to walk through the fog of smokers just outside the door.

That's all perfectly normal... well... not normal... expected! I'm afraid you've just got to deal with it... And it lasts for weeks, not days... And it's thoroughly unpleasant... The good thing about it though is that it ends, I found weeks 2 and 3 to be weird and unpleasant, week 4 I returned to mostly normality. It sucks. Just keep something with you to respond to triggers, glass of water, lolly, etc. And if you have a reasonable boss tell him or her not to expect too much work out of you!! Hopefully they'll understand and support you.

That's largely untrue, if you're talking about really young kids then I think it's good to give them all a reward regardless of how they did to make them want to continue with sports otherwise you will get all the strong kids being bigged up and the weaker kids being left by the wayside. At school I was one of the weaker kids that didn't mature as fast as some of the others and was more or less sidelined for everything sporting regardless of if I wanted to take part or not, that's not positive teaching, it completely turned me off sport and creates segregation within a system. Sport aside, if you taught that way for any other subject if you weren't a genius you'd be ignored in class rather than helped. Giving people rewards for accomplishment regardless of how well they did by comparison to others is positive reinforcement and has been demonstrated to improve individual performance.

I grew up in Oxford, was in a bunch of bands and hung out in the 'band scene' in that scene were a couple of bands that went onto make a job of it... Radiohead and Supergrass. Now I'm not saying they were friends but I did hang out with them. Also got back stage passes at a Glastonbury in 93 and ended up having drinking games with Tanya Donnely (from Belly) and Andy Kershaw (radio DJ).

Wow this is like the 4 Yorkshireman sketch. Do you really think kids have it easy? Instantly scrutinised via twitter / facebook /text, living in a world of cyber bullying, over sexulisation and the expectation that creates, the abundance of information is great on one hand but are we doing enough to protect children from it where it could be harmful. Obesity due to staying in and fear of playing down the park on their own. Kids don't have it easy. They have it different. Now stop being so grumpy.

Expect sleep to be out of whack, you're body is cleansing all kinds of crud out. Also during this time expect spots and all kinds of nonsense. Its not pleasant but it will pass.

3 days is fantastic. It's not easy from here. But its easier.

Although Easter is basically about shagging... Lots... Ya know bunnies, fertility, eggs... Those pagans knew how to party! But I like the premise you put forward. Even though it bares no reflection on historic tradition!
-
I find it all kinda weird inappropriate for kids, fertility symbolism is somewhat adult ... But hey, I go with it... Luckily I don't worship the goddess Eostre so I'll stick with the commercial shizzle.

You can't just take words out and call it a quote! The quote is Nothing of use to say, and I have fully complied with this by saying nothing if use! Seriously... Do better!

I admit my worthlessness on a regular basis... It's well worth ignoring everything I say!

Do you ever get those days where no matter how hard you think all you can think of is mind blowingly shallow stuff, like which cBeebies presenter you'd most like to sleep with? (Cat by the way) So here I am at work... coasting... I'm getting stuff done... pfff... My girlfriend stubbed her toe last night. Oooh look... a new email...

Unexpected Benefits Of Quitting...What Were Yours?

Under what circumstances would you smoke again?
robf replied to Jonny5's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
Well if someone offered me a shed load of cash to essentially go through withdrawal again I'd do it. Wouldn't even have to be that much to be honest (in the grand scheme of things), I know what to expect I know how to handle it. No big deal. I don't smoke now because I choose not to smoke. When I was in withdrawal I chose not to smoke. I'm better than nicotine. It will lose every single time without question. -
Indeed not, that one was a very easy one to handle, I had some around the 6 month mark where I've been angry / upset etc, heart racing where you just want to punch a hole in a wall and smoke a pack... those ones are the ones to look out for.
-
Although you have every right to preach your views to them, I don't think you should. They have every right to smoke there annoying that it is. Equally people are allowed to play Miley Cyrus out of a telephone, swear in non-creative ways, spit and litter. Now I accept second hand smoke has more health issues than the horror that is Miley Cyrus, but it's outside, it's no worse than walking down a busy road, and I'm guessing you don't shout at cars telling them off. Chill out, they'll come to their senses eventually... or die. Either way, it solves the problem.

Like anything, it's about cost / benefit. If you feel the benefit outweighs the cost then you'd do it, regardless of smoking, cutting off your little finger, cheating on a partner or punching a baby.
