  1. A mother tells her little boy, "Johnny, you mustn't eat too many lollies or I'll hide the lolly jar." Johnny asks, "Why?" His mother says, "Because something bad will happen! Your tummy will blow up big like a balloon and then pop!" The next day at church, the boy is sitting next to a pregnant woman. He points to her belly smiling and says, "I know what you've been doing!"
  2. Q: What did bakon say to the condom? A: "Cover me. I'm going in."
  3. There was an old couple laying in bed. The man turns and tells the woman, "If you want to have sex, pull on my dick once. If you don't want to have sex, pull on my dick one hundred times."
  4. Ya, her smokes. I have no doubt in my mind, I will quit again. I'm off the to see my psychologist, then my psychiatrist today. That usually sets me back for a day or two. But, I try to do what needs to be done. The psychiatrist has me scheduled for 35 - 40 daily treatments of Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, (TMS). A supposed, safer method of ECT. If, I start going off the "deep end" here, maybe you all can "cut me a little slack". Thanks, for the note T. Have a good day.
  5. I'll wait and see, after the next person starts a thread, to see if I have it right then.
  6. Hi T. Thanks, for thinking about me, and the suggestion. I'm a kinda all or nothing type. (in for a dime, in for a dollar). How are you, today?
  7. Lordy, lordy, lordy! I like this forum.
  8. Ego From here. "(Psychoanalysis) psychoanal the conscious mind, based on perception of the environment from birth onwards: responsible for modifying the antisocial instincts of the id and itself modified by the conscience (superego)". The "id" is likened, to a small child. A two year old child and younger, hasn't any "superego". I once watched a two year old, grab a toy from another. Before he started playing with it himself, he first used it as a weapon, to "bonk" the other. Now, I don't know what that illuminates, except that the "id" does what it wants to do. I guess smokers can be thought of as a small child (id), doing only what it pleases them. Irregardless of the consequences. Maybe I need to accept the awareness of the "ego" and the modification of the "superego" and strike a balance.
  9. I think I want that.
  10. Well Nancy. I have set my preferences to follow the SOS forum, and I can set the alerts for email notifications, but I can't seem to set the notification for being alerted in the forum. How did you do this? Edit. I changed my notifications in the content I follow, (SOS forum), to be immediate. Now to see if I can turn on that notification, instead of just the email notification. And I now have the checked boxed for: Notifications Preferences -> "Notification method to use for topics in followed forums" (for SOS forum. as above). Maybe someone else has to start/respond to a thread in that forum, beside me, for me to get a notification ...
  11. Well, this thread is a little older now. I am using this post to see if I get a notification, from this post. do dah do dah
  12. Okay, thanks, I see now what you mean. That works, and I may use that feature, and only for that section. What of all the people, that don't know/use that feature, but would jump into a new SOS Thread that was started, if they were alerted? Edit: Never mind Babs. That works pretty well. Carry on ...
  13. I don't want to keep reading all posts. But, if I am around and see an *ALERT*, that someone has started a new "SOS Thread", I would want to read and post.
  14. That would be helpful, for most maybe but, I choose to check my emails on line, without the help of a desktop application.
  15. I have to check this out. I'm confused ... :(
  16. Edit: (Repost of Post #19) I see that this is not that clear for anyone wanting to follow instructions, to be sure they have notifications on the Main Board, for any "Newly started SOS Threads". Below, is what I did: 1) Click on the "The S.O.S. Board header, on the main board -> to the far right, click on -> "Follow this forum" -> Check the box for "Receive notification" -> choose from the drop-down list -> "Instantly" -> and below in white, click on "Follow this forum". 2) Click on my name on the top of the main page -> "My Settings" > on left list, click on "Notification Options" -> on the " Notification method to use for topics in followed forums" -> place a check under "Notification List". Now, I have notifications of newly started SOS Threads, on the top of the Main Board. If you want, you can have emails sent to you, too. I don't. I hope this helps.
  17. I remember posting a SOS, on another board when I was really thinking of saying fck it again, and smoke. But, I thought I would try the the SOS first, to see if it would help. The "helpful" responses poured in, immediately. The only one that sticks in my mind now, was the one that replied (if I remember it correctly), "No, you don't", (feel like smoking). I was a little hurt at that one. I also remember posting a short time later, that my strong urge to smoke had dissipated, before I had finished writing the SOS. Then, I knew he was right. My membership of that board and willingness, to do what was suggested in it, had "saved the day".
  18. You made me laugh. Not at the message, which I think is accurate but, your choice of words.
  19. I dunno Chrysalis. I have studied online resources, more than most. I have bought and digested quit smoking books. I have been very active in quit smoking forums, this being my fourth. I have sought out treatments and have participated in 5 quit smoking clinics. I have prayed for help, lots. There are people here, that can attest to the veracity of my claims of knowledge about nicotine addiction and cessation. They have witnessed my involvement, in these forums. Does the help that is available actually, help? Yes, in my estimation. Proof of my belief in that, is that I am here. If I didn't think it helped, I wouldn't be. My conclusion with this thread though, is that the impetus and drive for successful nicotine cessation, needs to come from within. Nothing more than that.
  20. Thank you, for the replies folks. I only glanced at them just now, and will read them thoroughly later. Right now, I have to clear the piles of snow, on our side walks and dig out a couple of stranded cars, so we can get mobile again. Talk with you later ...

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
