  9. How you doing Nat? I second all of the above ....have you pre-responded to your own SOS yet on that thread? do that it will help put your reason for quitting down on paper......list all the benefits of quitting......you got this.......come back to this thread and let us know how you are doing.
  10. Awesome decision......the triggers you might not know how to tackle handle them as they come if it is bad come here and read and post. I also suggest you post in pre-respond to your own SOS. Post in your own words what you would say to yourself if you are struggling. Read some of the others also that might help. Make a list as to why. you got this :)
  11. ran outside for 6.5 miles for the first time in 3 weeks after surgery (I was itching to run) the last mile I kinda ran/walked but I expected that it has been 3 weeks after all.....feels awesome :)
  12. speaking as an RN it is true that sometimes it is hard to believe what some patients say. Like when they say they dont drink much and they come in with a high BAC or they only smoke a half pack when in reality they probably smoke a pack and a half if they knew that it doesnt matter how much you smoke but just the fact that you smoke that puts your airway and healing at risk with surgery. I know I used to state I smoked a half pack (smoked 1 pack a day) mostly because of embarrassment about the fact that I smoked at all. I work in a non smoking facility so we give the patients nicotine patches who are smokers. Being a non smoking facility does not stop family members from smoking either. We have been told some doosies so that is probably why we have become so cynical. As far as my GP he is happy that I quit smoking and that I lost wieght and lowered my cholesterol on my own without meds.....they are not used to that most people just want to do what they to do and eat whatever they want and just will take meds to "fix" the problem instead of making changes in their lifestyle to help themselves. It is a case of treating the symptoms rather than treating the problem itself.
  13. tracey you will be ok I have every confidence in you. I occasionally have thoughts of smoking such as this weekend, they are just passing thoughts and go away as quickly as they come on. PUsh those damn thoughts out of your mind. You got this.
  14. dont let it scare you the withdrawal is only temporary and quitting is doable I smoked for 20 years quit cold turkey (I tried the patch but it wasnt working the way I liked so did away with it after the 2nd day) It is great on the "other" side :) read a lot, post a lot, pick a date, drink lots of water, if you exercise when you have a craving exercise (it helps) if you run run for 10 minutes the crave will go, drink juice, eat healthy snacks. some use straws, suckers, read posts, post a lot (I know I said this twice but am stressing the importance) I understand the fear (had it myself) but it is definitely doable you are stronger than you think you will find :) Cutdown is torturing yourself as others have said. And most important welcome :)

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
