Oops - didn't scroll down past El Bandito's countdown thread in "Celebrations" far enough to find my own thread. Guess I better get started writing my acceptance speech, heh heh.

Tomorrow I beat you to the finish line, heh heh. We need to dig up Julie and get her in here for the Late January Quitter's Club celebration. Man, I'm so glad you made it, too. I've carried thoughts of the both of you with me this year and that has made a big difference. Thanks for being here. -the comrade

At 11 months it's occasional thoughts more than craves. I've just gotten good at walking around the pothole reflexively rather than stopping to peer in to see what may be there. Curiosity is dangerous. Smoking - don't go there, y'know?
-
And you become privey to all future inserts into the machine. for the rest of you, I inserted the bones of twenty chicken carcasses canned over the weekend.

Yeah, it seems kinda silly to celebrate the tenth month but I've posted on the other 9 so why jinx it? All is well - hi, all! the comrade

The first year of something is always the coolest. Good work!

And a homeless camp springs up. I insert pocket lint

You get the Blue Screen of Death. I insert four pounds of junk mail.

Woo hoo for what's left of the late January Quitters club! Bummer it looks like we lost julie, eh? Don't you be going away now!

Wow, not only do I forget about smoking for days at a time I completely forgot about my 9 month mark. Thanks for reminding me and I'm glad I caught in time to woot for soberjulie who has 9 months today, heh heh. Aine is still good, too. She's got 8 months in a couple of days and her quit is strong. My heart is slowly getting stronger. I went back to taekwondo last week - being careful and slow... just helping the kids polish up their forms for a testing next week. I'm not sparing. Methodically increasing the load at cardio therapy. Walking so fast on the treadmill a copule more bumps and I'll be at a real shuffly doubletime march. I haven't given up on the goal of running a mile just yet. Doing pretty good for 2 months after the heart attacks when you think about it. Still on the super strict diet. Off all blood pressure meds. I should probably see if I need some anti-psychotic medication because I've been entertaining thoughts of getting a job, bwahahaha.

I hear you. "Annoying" was the perfect word to describe the second month or so. Annoyed that I had to keep going through the damn no smoke drill day after day. But that's what it is - just annoying. Not hard, not dramatic, just boring and getting old crap over and over. I think I had a couple months of that phase before it went from an annoying need to do the litany to just casual dismissal. Hang in there... time will pass.

What, pray tell, is this mythical entity called disposable income? Quitting smoking didn't make me healthy so much as stopping the damage, and not buying cigarettes hasn't brought on riches - it has only slowed being bled dry by the gov/corp vampires. Am I living in a different country than the rest of you (canucks and brits please disregard)? Have I inadvertantly stumbled onto a forum populated by the elite rather than the 99.9% for whom picking pennies up off the floor enhances their economic position?

Good job! Don't weaken!

Comrade...how long have I been a non-smoker??
comrade simba replied to Soberjulie's topic in Quit Smoking Discussions
Had a full test workup the other day - EKG, blood enzymes and xray. All is as it ought to be; what's left is just building back my stamina. Cardio therapy going well. Massive dietary change has enabled me to get off all blood pressure medications. I'd say I am 40% of what I used to be which is pretty good six weeks after getting shocked back to life. Still really glad that I had quit smoking 7 months before the heart attack - having to quit while in the hospital would have really sucked. Julie - on the 24th you'll have 9 months. I'll ping you a chip ;-)- 18 replies

##MQ, the day is finally here! 1 year of freedom!!###
comrade simba replied to babs609's topic in Celebrations!
Attaboy, MQ. The stuff we go through just proves that no one has to smoke again. Having to ride herd over this board (especially during those oh so fun first weeks, heh heh) rates right up there with the top stressors of all time so yeah, it has been a big deal. Congrats and make sure my name is on the coffee cup list! -
Here's to ya!

Attaboy!

Queen Greenlover (Beth) Has A New Role...
comrade simba replied to MarylandQuitter's topic in Introductions & About Us
I have the same sort of "asshole" gene as ladybug, heh heh, so I can see where she is coming from. The positive aspects of what she said are of value - making a concerted effort to be only open and welcoming; she is dead right about people's propensity for reading into "hiya hows ya doin c'mon back" a certain amount of harrange and nag however benign the intention was. But! An email from the quit train "team" members isn't a 3rd party comunication. I would add a line in the email saying "to not hear from us again just reply to the email with remove me in the subject line, thank you." Had a guy I was doing business with today say he was 24 hrs into quitting smoking. I gave him our website url and said c'mon in it really helped me. Granted, the high drama in my first month with the qsmb blowout was candy to my conflict junkie baby but in the long term the security of this board and all its people is behind the scene strength to get through the rough spots. Hope the new guy is here! -
I was pretty darned proud of myself when I got my first week, you should be, too!

Good deal. It's a big deal!

People also mistake the reduction in coughing when they switch to vaping as it being les harmfull. Problem is it's the nicotine that beats the hell out of the cardiovascular system as well as the cillia in the lungs. Getting away from the tar in cigarettes is a minor deal if one is still using a nic juice. Vaping is for sissies anyway.

Somewhere near you is open space that could be sharecropped. Find it and cut a deal with the owners.
