  1. Alright: Edam is up next! Patricia Briggs Mercy Thompson series I've just finished. I like this genre, but very difficult to find good writers that don't end up in goop and sap and kissy poo. Stephen King, of course. Lee Childs Stiegg Larson Carol O'Connor Anne Rice prior to conversion These are a few of my favorite authors; I like several genres, really . .
  2. Yeah!! You're here! Good to see you, skillfulabbot
  3. Lunch was hummus and sweet red peppers, which are expensive here; can't wait till our peppers grow up! Green house has a few flats of baby pepper plants, but some bug is nibbling on the leaves. Sigh. But, I digress. My treat tonight for supper was salmon (smoked bits that came in a package instead of the stupid canned stuff which I detest) on toast, topped with a slice of havarti cheese and grilled onions and a boiled egg. I had never had Havarti before, either! Cheese is EXPENSIVE. And, I finished some work at home that has needed done for the past 2 weeks. I consider this a treat because I knew I'd feel loads better after I did it, and I did. So hard to be nice to myself sometimes. Tomorrow, I am planning on going to the gym. This is a treat because I started paying for the membership last month. I could run up and down the hills around here, but I enjoy the swimming at the gym after exercising! Who else did what today? This helps me with ideas; It is difficult to come up with ideas without just swiping the credit card somewhere! One thing on my list is going to the library and spending some time looking for a couple of good books. I read online quite a bit, but I really like real books. And, I've been really antsy and impatient in the library, which looking back, is because I was jonesing for a smoke, usually. Very sad.
  4. I will not smoke today.
  5. Blood sugar goes out of whack with the removal of nicotine from the system. If the NR is comparable to her smoking, IMO no.

The smileys in my last couple of posts I did through an add on for Firefox on my PC laptop . I'm not sure how to do it on a MacPro.

  12. I want a small horse to ride around our 50 acres. A sweet one, not too big.
  13. I've read, and have been told, that giving myself daily rewards for quitting smoking can help reinforce the quit. I have to admit that this has stretched me more than I care to think about; after all, thinking about things that give me pleasure, are good for me, perhaps, and isn't going to put me in the poor house (what's it been, a century since we had poor houses?) has been difficult. Smoking has taken over most of my life and I hadn't realized how much this addiction had stopped any thought about other things. So, today I ate Gouda cheese and apple slices for breakfast. I have never eaten Gouda cheese before, and I don't particularly care for apples normally, but a slice of the cheese with a bite of apple gives a wonderful taste that I am sure I would never have been able to pick up when I was smoking. The subtleties of taste were lost on me. I am giving thought for something for tomorrow! Anyone else treat themselves today?

  17. I'm one of those people that do not like to quit things that are bad for me. It helps to know this because then I can force myself to do things that I know will help me even though I may not want to do them at the time. Quitting smoking – I've had reservations about this. So things that can help cement my Initial decision:
  18. In the middle of house construction --I will not smoke today.

  23. I found these videos extremely helpful the first two weeks of my quit. Daily Quitting Lesson Guide Link to YouTube Featured Playlists for all of Joel Spitzer's Stop Smoking Videos I watched these like crazy, educating myself on the nature of addiction, how nicotine works on the body, and how deep breathing can help alleviate the cravings. Read, read, read, also, al the links/articles in the Newbie package and post lots of whiny, silly posts. Seriously. Everyone does. And you'll feel better. Make sure and for real, post an "SOS" when you get one of those "I have to SMOKE" cravings. Wait. Wait. Wait. People will answer you. Just hang on to the side of your monitor with clenched hands, and wait for your help. The Blood Sugar goes haywire the first 72 hours of withdrawal from nicotine. So, drink fruit juice regularly. Cranberry is great, but any juice, really. Hummus is my friend. Hummus. A weird dip made from something healthy. I use this and lots of vegetables that, when slathered with hummus, tastes good. And, I have only gained 2 pounds in 5 weeks of my quit. So far. lol. Ice Water and tick tacs, they help. And, most of all; WALK. Post and SOS, wait for the help, then walk. Anywhere. It helps tremendously. Make sure you get back to your people on the forum when you get back from your walk. They are waiting to hear from you. They worry. lol. That's worked for me, anyway,
  24. So, I decided to "follow" this forum so that I will get an email when someone posts an SOS. I check email a lot-part of my job.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
