  5. HI Runfree, this is my 3rd quit and my sticky quit in a year, those feelings, craves that you are talking about were my downfall, I was prepared for them and expected them and relished them in the first few months, then became lenient against them and when a hard one hit, I didn't have or use my strength to overcome it, be prepared is the advice that I would give you, we are all different in our quits, some find it easier some of us struggle, but as long as you are stronger and determined then you will succeed, I was expecting it all to be over in a flash and became frustrated, why was I still feeling this way, doubt crept into my mind and BAM I lost my wonderful quit, good to see you sharing how you are feeling, it certainly helps to strengthen your resolve, you are doing brilliantly and we are all here to support you xx
  6. Having an in depth conversation with my Hairdresser yesterday, he is a smoker and has had many attempts to quit since I have been getting my hair done by him. Topic of conversation turned to age, and here is what we deduced between us. When we start smoking at a young age we feel, cool, part of the gang, "grownup", we don't stop to think of the consequences, we think we look really good with a cigarette in our hand, we then reach our twenties and smoking still continues to be cool, fun part of the in crowd, sometimes we think about stopping but "hey we have our whole lives ahead of us for that", nothing bad will happen to us because we are untouchable right!. In our Thirties, marriage, children, mortgages, bills creep in stress takes over, there is no way we can stop smoking now, just no time for it, occasionally we will sigh, can't; really afford it, no longer feels fun, or cool but hey we still have a lifetime ahead of us and nothing bad will happen to us. Forties OMG reality check, slight health problems may be kicking in, we are now starting to really look at quitting, half heartedly attempt to maybe quit, our life suddenly seems a little shorter, as we start to approach our 50's we begin to get panicky, wish we had never started, really attempt to try and quit. My hairdresser is in his late twenties and as we were talking he was like, bloody hell that is so true, he said I wish I had never started but I don't worry too much as I still have my whole life ahead of me, so stop now was my reply. Why wait until it is too late, harder to quit the habit, why wait until health problems kick in to make you question what you are doing, We can't turn the clock back. Although we all wish we could. Better to stop now or even better never lift a cigarette and light it..................

  13. Awesome Post Babs hit me right behind the eyes when you said about feeling weaker than other quitters, and not truly grasping the reality of it all, finally beginning to sink in my quit is for keeps, Im not just playing at this, I mean business and its not going to be a ride in the park, my craves, thoughts and emotions are not going to disappear overnight I have to deal with them head on, I choose to become a smoker all those years ago and now I am choosing to become a non smoker, I am in control of how this quit goes, nothing more nothing less.,

  15. Going with the ebb and flow at the minute, but OMG some of these waves are huge!!, 1 more minute.....1 more minute, and gradually the wave lowers and eases and gently laps. Phew they are terrifying, but I know they will crash and burn out I just have to keep reassuring myself its early days, you got through hell week, you can ride these waves, it helps to visualise the cravings as waves, reaching a crest and decreasing to a gentle flow gets me through the crave, closing my eyes and concentrating. Wave banished......

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
