  1. Hi Leila and welcome on board the quit train, congratulations to you on making the best decision you will ever make in your life and that is quitting, there are some wonderful posts here and plenty of advice, read as much as you can my lovely and start to re-educate yourself on the benefits of stopping smoking, the hardest part is done and that is making the conscious effort to quit, you need to remember that you are an addict and that you need to wean yourself off the nicotine, the first 72 hours is when the nicotine is leaving the system, but please remember if you can go 1 hour without a cigarette you can do 2, then 3 and then 4 a whole day, you are stronger than the addiction. Pledging to the NOPE every day is wonderful, even if you have to repeat NOPE to yourself every 5 seconds. if you are a cat lover you will get on well here, just watch out for Bakon he is a secret cat napper .....post as often as you can, we will give you all the support you need, you can do this we will help. So looking forward to sharing your journey with you xx

  6. It doesnt take much to re-awaken the cravings, I know that too, hard lesson to learn, we think its ok just to have "one" but it takes us straight back to where we don't want to be, doubting ourselves, do not doubt anything, all that you are feeling is just the addiction trying to sneak its way back in, shut the door in its face, do not allow it any room, fill your head with healthy thoughts, keep the feelings that you felt in your quit alive in yourself and remind yourself constantly that that is where you want to be you want to be a non smoker, be stronger than the addiction you know you can xx

  10. What you need to remember CPK is the addiction will try every trick in the book to try and entice you back, through a dream, through a niggle, through a doubt, if you give the addiction any room in your head it will grow, it will become bigger, this is what happens when we romance the nicotine, its very easy to fall into the nicodemon's trap, tell it its no longer welcome in your head, you have control of your life you are doing awesome, we are a team here and we all understand what you are going through xx

  15. Hi Michelle and welcome to QT, congratulations on getting through hell week, you are doing awesome, its all about re-educating yourself my lovely, you are worth so much more, take back control of your life, the craves are going to test you, and some days you will feel like banging your head off a brick wall, the NOPE is a wonderful chant in the early days, I swear people thought I was crazy, muttering under my breath NOPE, breath NOPE breath.....everything you feel is completely normal, stay close to the board and read, post and take it all in, if a bad crave hits reach out there is always someone here, and we will help you through it, you need to know that you can do this xx
  16. Both my parents smoked, I started smoking at 12 as well, but back in the 60's and 70's not so much of the dangers were known about nicotine addiction everyone smoked then!!, my mum quit when she was in her 40's my dad quit and started to smoke cigars and stopped them when he was 66, my brother has never smoked neither has my husband, my son smoked, but he has since quit. In my husband's family his mum smoked and gave up a year ago she was 64, his two sisters smoke out of 5 of them.
  17. Love it CPK, whatever it takes to get you through the crave, much better than setting something alight and putting it in your mouth eh!
  18. Hi CPK the intensity of these dreams will decrease over time, promise, your body is adjusting to life without nicotine and one thing to be affected unfortunately is your sleep pattern, just relax if you can, if you become uptight with the sleep pattern you are currently going through you will make the situation worse. I myself don't know if there is anything that you can do to lessen the intensity of the dreams, but one way to look on them is that your body is re-awakening to a new you, and that has to be a good thing, everything you go through in your quit journey at the minute is leading you to a better life. Positive and be proud you are doing a wonderful thing.
  19. Fantastic 7 months walk tall and walk proud
  20. Amazing 16 months, I can see you in the distance, and the quit looks great
  21. I am totally rocking this quit , 3 weeks, in your face!!!
  22. The smoking dreams are completely normal, I quit last year in January and found the smoking dreams so real, and I used to wake up sometimes crying thinking that I had lost my quit, then feeling elated because it was just a dream, the sleep pattern will settle and you will find your sleep will be much better for you in time. Adjusting to a life as a non smoker is being able to change your routine and habits, I find its the feeling of missing something and that there is an empty sensation, but knowing a lot of long term quitters here I know that in time I will adapt and learn to live with this feeling . Be so proud of you, be proud of what you are achieving, you are taking back the control of your life, you are no longer a prisoner to the nicotine, you will in time benefit from feeling fitter, have a better sense of taste, smell, you will no longer smell, your eyes and hair will be brighter, you will be able to walk, run further without being out of breath, have renewed energy enjoy your food, a whole new life awaits you out there, take it by the balls and enjoy it xx
  23. 3 weeks NOPE
  24. I never left :D always lurking in a corner
  25. Such scary reading, its frightening to think how many times in the past I read posts and stories just like these and thought to myself, "it will never happen to me" so glad I finally saw sense and made the decision to quit, my mum watched her auntie die from Lung Cancer, she smoked woodbines from when she was a child and did not quit when told she had cancer, its terrifying to realise just how powerful the addiction is, I was dealing with a customer today whose wife has just come out of Hospital after being diagnosed with COPD, waiting for a wheelchair to be assigned and is on Oxygen 24/7 poor guy was in tears. I do not want to end up losing my life to nicotine

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
