  1. You'll always be my quit buddy, Sonic! :)
  2. You definitely get there! I'm not sure when it happened. One day, you'll be just going along, and suddenly be like, "Wow, I haven't thought about smoking all day or in a few days or a while or whatever." It's such a great feeling. :) It won't take long. Keep saying NOPE, and it will be here before you know it.
  3. Becoming a non-smoker is so freeing! I love seeing others succeed and helping when I can.
  4. Regarding a plan - have some snacks ready. I used to love eating pistachios or peanuts from the shell. Gave me something to do with my hands and mouth. Chips and salsa was another favorite snack - the hot salsa didn't go well with smoking. Also, be ready to put off your craving - tell yourself, not now. I will not smoke at this moment. Maybe in an hour. That will give the craving time to pass. In the same token, try not to struggle with yourself about it. In failed attempts, I would get into this "I want one" "I don't one" I have to have one" "I'll just smoke this last one and that will be it for sure!" "Oh my, I want one so bad" Those internal arguments so often lead right back to smoking. Decide you want to stop, then stop.
  5. Check in here if you can! Post a number in the chicks and sticks game. :) Make a phone call. I love the tea idea or a healthy snack. Walk around the building. Read motivational quotes to try to stay positive. Take some deep breaths\Meditate. Enjoy that you don't have to go out and smoke!

  9. YAY WENDY!!!! Two years is AWESOME!!!! :)
  10. Who are you??? Post your name and # of days quit. Get to know each other.
  11. I love this thread!!! :)
  12. Today is not my Day 1, but I did post a Day 1 thread, also a Day 2, and Day 3. Then celebrated a week, then week 2, then 3 months, etc. Those posts helped me so much early in my quit. Also, finding a quit buddy helped. We also had a group to support each other that quit around the same time - Summer Quitters! Many of us are still around here. What day are you on? Start a new topic and let us know! Are there others that quit in the same month as you? Start a group. Get to know each other and support each other. :)

  14. Great to see you Juan! Get this done! No more smoking. We have all tried and failed. Time now for you to DO and succeed! I forgot that I did the daily posts that Simba mentioned, like Day 1, Day 2, Day 3, etc. Those are super helpful, you post for distraction and get reinforcement.
  15. I don't miss burning my lips sucking on a butt cuz I was out of smokes and nasty butts were all I had. Gross and embarrassing to even admit I did that! I don't miss that constant clearing of the throat. HATED that!!! I was in sales for a long time and had to talk on the phone a lot. So embarrassing to have to mute my customer to clear it! Disgusting! That scratchy throat was cleared in less than two weeks. Being the closet smoker I was, I don't miss having to go and find a place to hide to smoke.
  16. Hi and welcome!!! Yep - I had many failed attempts with a variety of methods - patch, gum, medication, vaped for a short period. Cold turkey was my method of success. I went at my cold turkey quit with a super positive attitude - looked at only the benefits of quitting and the harm it caused. Wouldn't give in to excuses like, but just this one or they help me relax, etc... There are absolutely NO benefits of smoking. Also, like you, I had a parent die of cancer. My Dad died from smoking in 1999, so sad to see his healthy lively happy person wither away to nothing. And guess what, I continued to smoke for too many years. Addiction sucks! The great news is that it is so very doable to break that addiction! And so incredibly worth it!!! It feels so great to be free!!!! We're happy to have you here! Welcome to our little home on the web!
  17. Hi and welcome!! Quitting can be a bit scary at first - ditching that old reliable addiction. But Fear Not! It is totally doable. You may experience some uncomfortable moments, but you will get through them and learn that continuing to smoke is way scarier!! My first suggestion is to read all over this Board! There is so much information! My second suggestion is to post often. We have all been where you are and are happy to help. My third suggestion is to play the Chicks and Sticks game. It is a great way to get to know people and distract yourself. :)
  18. Nik the stick. Sounds like you will fit in perfectly around here! Congrats on the marriage plans! We're happy to help you kick that nasty addiction and be free! You'll love it! Nic the stick gonna kick the nic (nicotine). And I'd tell you to stay away from that old numbers game, but it's such a nice distraction you should go ahead and jump in. We've got some newbie chicks too to balance you out. :)
  19. Hello Nochoice! We have all been where you are, and you have entered a very non-judgemental forum. Getting through those first few days and couple weeks will have challenges, but you can do it! Know that the urges will pass, when they come, embrace them, you know what it is, it's that nicotine wanting to get back in your system. don't let it back in. Come here and post something. We can help you distract yourself and stay away from those nasty cancer sticks! Check in with us as often as you can. We're here for you!
  20. Sounds like an awesome quit you have going!!! The forums were a life saver for me! Post a question if you'd like or post your progress! We are happy to cheer each other on and hear how great things are going!!! I also loved the new found energy I got from not smoking and eating healthier and exercising more!!! Quitting is all good and absolutely no bad! Keep up the great work!!!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
