  1. Welcome aboard the Quit Train Anna, good to see you have already quit that nasty habit. I am a recent quitter myself so still dependent on the support and advice of the veterans on this forum. It looks like you have gotten plenty of replies already, though I expect you will see a great deal more before this day is out. When I first quit, and before I found this community, I spent a lot of time reading and educating myself at another helpful website called whyquit.com. Check it out, there are lots of informative videos and volumes of great reading material. In the mean time, the best advice I can give you is to keep busy, do things you enjoy, and keep your hands and feet inside the train car at all times LOL
  2. I met George Bush Sr. in the sixties. Kennebunkport, Maine Top center was my uncles cottage and to the right top and bottom is the church that George Bush used to have his press conferences in front of. That's the Bush house on the bottom left which is right behind the camera person's back when they took the picture of my Uncle's place. George Sr. loves speed boats.
  3. I think that Nancy met Elvis.
  4. Did you know any of the Beetles?

  17. LMAO, your just jealous because a colonial invented the refrigerator, right? I had a really hard time drinking beer in London, and had a hell of a time getting anything served cold there, in fact I had to practically beg for ice cubes. Yes, I am a totally ridiculous colonial, and my mother was French Canadian, but we colonials like our beer cold. Besides, you guys drive on the wrong side of the road, silly Brits.
  18. Cold water in the UK? When did that happen? Does that mean they have cold beer too?
  19. When gasoline finally hit a dollar a gallon, I remember how gas stations would put paper cutouts on their signs for the "1". Gas pumps also had to be changed out because they did not have facilities for the third didget. It was all mechanical in those days and very expensive to upgrade.
  20. A gallon of gas and a pack of cigarettes were both under 25 cents.
  21. There is one very important exception to the subject of this thread, CARS. Simply put, cars were soooooooo much easier to work on in the old days. Nuff said.
  22. Going back even further, cavemen used to etch messages in stone, do you remember "film"? To take a picture, you had to go to the store and buy a roll of "film", wrestle with it to get it in the camera, you got 12 or 20 shots, then you had to take it out of the camera, back to the store to have it "processed", pay more money and hope like hell you didn't screw them up. Does anyone remember the big computer/robot scare of the 70's? Well the first computer called the "PET" came out in the late 70's along with machines that were controlled by computers called robots. Everyone was afraid of losing their jobs to these new fangled gizmos. Nowadays you can lose your job if you don't know how to use a computer. LOL
  23. I believe one of the first video games was called "Pong" on a green screen with no fancy digitizer like a mouse or track ball. My mother actually told me the story about walking to school up hill in the snow with bare feet both ways.LOL And I watched "The Three Stooges" (which would be considered too violent in today's world) every morning before I went to school.

    SOS here

Hi Evelyn, I am new to quitting and certainly not as wise about such things as others here on the train, but here is my amateur advice. Think of something that you really enjoy doing, and that takes a lot of time to do, and do it. Hope this helps.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
