  1. Thanks for your reply. I have had my feet up all day, maybe to many chips yesterday. As for watching my grandson, he is no trouble at all, we just snuggled up on the couch and watched Americas funniest videos animal edition. My grown 33 yr old son wears me out more than the little guy K
  2. Gus, I am new to this site so I have not read all your post but I can tell you really suffer from anxiety. Try to deep breathe before the interviews and get a little tube of vaseline to have in your purse, rub a little on your teeth before you go in, makes it easier to smile during the interview. You will land the job, then check your insurance benefits and start researching therapists. I want so much for you to feel better!!!! K
  3. I do not think this could be related to not smoking, everyone said drink lots of water, so I have. Been on a salt crave which is normal for me. Do not know where the swelling is coming from. I was going to go to urgent care today but the kids needed me to watch the grandson. I will go to GP tomorrow, just wondering if anyone else has had this experience. K
  4. Hi Steven, Glad you got thru it. Today is my 7th day, one whole week and I can't believe I did it. By the end of next week I will be 5'8, 115#s and 25 years younger. If I can quit smoking I can do anything. That said, I will need to win the lottery to make those other things happen. Let's stay positive and focus on win-win. K
  5. Hi Gus, Just spent the last hour typing you a very long message, then I hit some button and it just disappeared. To tired to start over, so here is the condensed version. I have suffered from anxiety and panic attacks since I was a small child. When I became an adult depression joined the party. After my son was born in my late 20s I became concerned that I would pass this to him thru my behavior. Went into therapy, talk, group and cognitive. Point is it really helped and changed my life. I have a brilliant son who is open to any adventure so I met the goal,, did not pass it on. I used to be ashamed and embarrassed of my condition, now I don't give a crap what anyone thinks. I do what I want when I can do it. K
  6. Made it one week, never thought I could do it!! Thanks guys!! K
  7. Abby. I agree one hundred and Claussen ten percent, let's go to the fridge and see what we have......Claussen kosher dill spears and their sandwich slices. Best Maid hamburger slices, small sweet pickles. Vlassic sweet and dill relishes and a number of olives. capers and horseradish. These are essential for life> K
  8. Geez Steven, sounds like the last few days have been hell for you.  You need to try some distraction. I don't know you and so have no clue what might help.  Just have to go off my list.

Big glass jar on coffee table full of soft and hard peppermint, butterscotch, werthe

rs hard  caramel, dum dum lollipops, life savers, all your favorite gums.

Second jar...all your favorite nuts, some in shell so you have to work for it, peanuts, pistachios, sunflower seeds, harder to shell pecans, almonds, walnuts, my personal favorite, brazil nuts!

Put a bowl next to this jar with nut crackers and use the bowl for shells.  If you are married or have a girlfriend DO not make a mess and leave it.

Next off to the hobby shop, for me puzzles, color fine images with markers and pencils.  Looking into taking crochet lessons. These may not interest you but were men there looking at all kind of models to build and paint.  Also, home brewing your own beer,  looking into making your own jerky and dried fruits and veggies. Really big here in Dallas/Fort Worth.

    My favorite is dehydrated okra.

And as everyone here has taught me water, water, more water.  I know it is a cheat thing but i do have some nicotine lozenges for emergencies for my protection and for an innocent bystander who might be in the wrong place and the wrong time if I felt an explosion coming on.

Just find something you enjoy that you can do at home and then when you need to get out, bowling, roller skating, ice skating and my new fav, going to the arcade!

Sorry to be long winded. Just be happy you don't have to hear my voice.

    K

It's all good. I have 5 and half years off alcohol, so that's not an option. I do have a lot of cinnamon gum and ginger candy on hand. I have nicotine gum on hand, but hardly ever use it because it irritates my acid reflux. I love to do word search books and I  have some coloring books and pencils but have to start using them. Today, I am going to play some guitar with a friend and hang out at his house for awhile. We have family and a baby visiting the house right now, so it'll be good to get out for awhile. My girlfriend Katherine passed away from lung cancer in August of 2019, but I still go to visit her son Sam. I usually drive up with his real dad on Tuesdays. He recently graduated high school and is doing better. Hang in there. The cravings will come and go. I have COPD and have lost and few teeth because of my 40 plus years of smoking. I recently got a bridge put in for my top teeth. Good times! 🙂

Steven I am so sorry to hear about Katherine and I do understand the pain and grief. I lost my husband to skin cancer 10 1/2 years ago and I am still not over it.  I should not be drinking either but i can't give up two things at the same time. I am so glad that you are continuing your relationship with Sam. He will draw strength from you and his bio Dad, that he still matters in your life even if his Mom is gone.  My situation is the same, my grandson is not of my blood but of my heart. He does not look like me or my son.  His Mom is Japanese/White,

Bio dad is Latino.  My son and I just plain old white.  Asher has been our family since he was 6 months old. He and his Mom lived with us for 3 1/2 years while they saved for the wedding and for down payment on their own home.  He is already in my will to make sure funds are set aside for college.

As far as health goes, I had to have a hip replacement about 3 months ago due to AVN (avascular necrosis you can google it) due to smoking and drinking (which I did alot of when my husband died).

I have no musical talent other than turning on the stereo and dancing while I clean house.

My son is a great trumpet player and his wife plays the flute. Just getting the grandson started on the keyboard.

You might try the nicotine lozenges, you just put them under your tongue and they melt slowly. the gum did not agree with me either.  I found the best price on these thru Amazon.

I do not have COPD but my insurance carrier just added CT of the chest covered once a year.

Had that done and it showed the beginning of emphysema.  So here I am.

Sorry to type your ear off, we can do this and our word search books and coloring projects.

      Have a great evening.

  9. Jillar, My son is not a doctor, he only has a degree from UT at Denton in kinesiology. Now a personal trainer and also working/studying for his real estate license. Feet and ankles still swollen, I showed them to my DIL when she dropped off my grandson, Still no pain or fever so I will leave it alone, my son says it may be related to the PT for recovering from the hip placement. Doing more than I should at this point. K TEXAS
  10. Garry, so sorry it took me so long to reply. Your post brought up alot of fear in me. Sounds like you live alone. I do also, and have deep fears about the situation. I can only imagine how scared you must have been when you collapsed. You are blessed to have a friend that came to check on you, I am assuming they had tried to reach you without success. I am living alone for the first time in my life, my son, his wife, grandson moved out after they saved enough to be able to buy their own home. I had my mother here for a couple of years until she declined so bad I could not keep her safe. I lost the love of my life to cancer about 10 years ago, we were childhood sweethearts, together at 15 and parted at 51. The last blow was losing my best friend (and my husbands) last year. We had known each other from the age of 7. He was the person who looked after me when my husband died, calling everyday to make sure I was ok and give the weather and stock market report(LOL) I hate to say but I thought I was the only one being tortured but it seems we all are in one way or another. I pretty much left the world (became a hermit) when my husband died. All of you are the most human contact I have had for years. The stress of the quit is hard but the joy of meeting people who want help me is a blessing. Sorry to be so chatty. K
  11. Thanks Diane Still no better last night, wish I could go back to bed now but this has one pay off today. Grandson coming over to stay with me while Mom and Dad go into work for a few hours. JOY, JOY, JOY! K
  12. Thanks JILLAR, Has not gotten worse and is not painful. Spoke to my son, going to wait until tomorrow, if still swollen go to my GP office, they are open 12 to 4 for emergencies; Thanks for your reply, I have never stopped smoking since I was pregnant with my son 34 years ago, so I did not know if this was related to my quit, Thank you for letting me know it was not related. Had a hip replacement 3 months ago so maybe related to that. K
  13. Hi Doreen, I have brought in everything that I thought would help and every distraction helps. I am just so proud that I am on the 6th day and am doing well. I am having a problem but I have no idea what is causing it, this afternoon my feet and ankles are swelling like the great pumpkin. I am going to wait another half hour, if it gets worse, off to urgent care. Has anyone else had this happen? Let me know asap, if it is normal when you quit, I will not worry, if not off to urgent care. Thanks to all K
  14. Hi Maryland Quiter,

I  am not good on the computer, do not use facebook, where are you in Maryland?

    My family comes from Bivalve.

  15. Every thing I read tells me my sense of smell and taste will improve over time. I have not had that happen yet, but lazy tonight to make a proper dinner, so had a chili dog..............was pretty good. What are your craves other than nicotine? K a
  16. Thanks Mee, I know the sleeping thing will pass, just like the cravings. I just have to have patience, thanks to God that I don't work. I would go crazy thinking I would mess something up. I worked in the printing industry, one mistake could be 20M for the company. Never had it happen, but would worry now. I am heart broken for those people who are doing this while working, raising a family, or dealing with a family health issue. NOW THAT IS TRUE STRENGTH AND I APPUALD YOU!! K
  17. Gus Thanks for the info,I will do more readinggp on the site to see what might help. I was having problems sleeping before I quit. My doc just keeps giving me stuff that is off label. I want to scream just give me a sleeping pill and be done with it. I have found out that doctors in Texas ( and other states) are not only being monitored for opioid scripts but also the benzo drugs, I.E. sleeping medications valium, xanex etc. So they are afraid to give scripts for either, even if they know if is the right thing. I do not doc shop, I have been with same GP for over 25 years, you think they would get it. I have now been awake for 27 hours. K
  18. Having a hard time sleeping, either can't fall asleep or waking up every hour or so. Tried a search on this topic but did not get anything. Not a computer person, so don't know if I am doing search wrong. Advice on sleep or how to search the forum. K
  19. I am thankful from the bottom of my lungs, I feel better just to have someone to talk to about the process since I have smoked about 40 years, and I don't have a clue how to stop. Everyone here has been kind. Can anyone give advice about getting some sleep? K
  20. Rozuki,. Thanks for your reply, I am not a computer expert, first timer on a board like this so have patience with me. I am sorry to hear how much you have suffered. Deep in my heart I always knew things would go bad. Even when my husband was given the terminal skin cancer diagnosis, I still could not quit. I am the most stupid example of denying the facts when I watched the person I held/hold most dear disappear before my eyes. I am and forever will be ashamed of my behavior, There was so much stress and all consuming fear that I could not do the right thing. I need to spend more time reading the board so I can try to help others and appreciate the gifts of what you have shared. K
  21. Thanks for your replies, did not know if I was the only one facing immediate health issues. I did not know if I could do this after 40 years with my friend, now I know my enemy well. Thinking of all of you and praying for all of you, somehow we can all do this one dream at a time for better health and a future of relief from worry. K
  22. I think I may be the weird one here. In February 2020 I started having pain low back and hip. Went to the GP, pinched nerved, inflammation....medicine, heat, ice, rest. Would get better and then flair again, and then COVID. Could not go to the doctor for awhile. Finally back to GP, reflexes were off, something is wrong with your back, sent to ortho, spine guy. He took xrays, not back/spine, hip problem and it is bad. He did not go into detail. Had to wait 2 weeks to see the hip guy and all the while pain is getting worse. Spine guy, your hip has collapsed. Tried twice to do MRI but could not stay still due to pain, had to go to hospital and get put under to get the MRI. Diagnosis, AVN avascular necrosis(never heard of it vary rare) the top of my femur had died and broken apart due to lack of blood supply from smoking and increased by my alcohol consumption after my husband died inn 2010. Had to wait a couple of more weeks before they could do total hip replacement and one suicide attempt later due to pain,. finally done. Recover from hip replacement a breeze compared to earlier pain Regular G{ check up, insurance now pays for lung cancer screening, had the CT, not cancer but the start of emphysema. I have watched people suffer this slow horrible death, I will not do it, I will not make my son watch it and take care of me, he had enough pain with his Dad. SO I AM DONE! K
  23. Hey Steven, Just saw your struggle today. I am new and am only six days in. Yesterday was hard for me too! Today is better, I am trying to be proactive with anything that might help. Had a third acupuncture treatment today. I am using nicorette lozenges for now if it gets to hard to bear. I have a giant jar on my coffee table full of all types of hard candies, those little dum dum lollipops are the best. Under the coffee table I have a bottle of bourbon. I have driven my neighbors crazy, bringing them homemade cookies and bread. (keeps me busy). I went to the hobby shop, got word search puzzles (to make sure I don't lose my mind) and some neat color projects, very fine images,, you have to pay attention. I leave alone, a widow, grown son married but I do have company. Three dogs, and they keep me busy, had only two littles and my best friend passed and I now have an 80# pure blood chow. Sorry I have been so chatty, I do find it helps to talk. STAY STRONG TRY EVERYTHING AND ANYTHING. THAT IS MY MANTRA! I WILL WIN AND YOU WILL WIN! K
  24. Thanks so much for the welcome and encouraging words. Had a great easy day! Went to the tattoo shop to get my ears pierced. They were running a special so the place was packed. Line around the building with smokers. Did not bother me at all, I got this. K
  25. Quit date 6/20/21, getting harder as time passes!
