  6. @Opah I can only guess you are having issues going. If that is the case and it has been happening for a length of time, you might want to check with the doc. Our bodies all work differently. You should not try to be in control, your body will do what is needed when it needs to. I do not know you, your age etc...but if you have not it may be time for a colonoscopy. People seem to think that is a bad thing. The procedure is easy, it is the prep that I find the worst part. K
  7. Well I am glad, I would have to fly to the UK and have fo have a tangle. i had enough of that when we were in high school. I was always the winner from age fifteen to fifty one.
  8. Jesus I have been in jail for so long and did not know. The major thing in my life was the same, did I have enough cigs to get thru the day. I need to stop on the way home to get a carton, not a pack but a carton. When can I sneak away and have a smoke. Why is my habit worse than others that drink to much. eat to much. I finally have realized I do all those things and it is not acceptable. This just brings a whole lot of issues I need to deal with and I am not happry about it. Things are going to get alot harder but I will tackle it a step at a time.that is all I can do, admit the problem and try to do better.

    Who's in Charge?

Just found this thread. I am in charge. May not like it but I have go do it. I have to be in charge but there are days when I want to say take care of that, I am going to take a nap. It is kind of funny I found this, I have been having trouble with my middle child (dog). He thinks he is entitled to get food aggresive behavior and throws a fit, I mean ugly with teeth out and barking and going at the 80# chow who does not respond. It is not acceptable, so I grab him and put my hand around his mouth an I tell him I am in charge, I put his food bowl up on the table. He is learning he can't have his bowl until he stops. I yell at him in my meanest voice that I am in charge and he stops. Am I doing the right thing? I know you are you are talking about my quit and I am in charge of that but to to take care of that I have to be in charge of all areas of my life. K
  10. @Mac#23 that is a nice thought, but I must admit that watching these minions time after time has lessoned my love. Did you ever have to watch Barney the purple dinosuar everyday multiple times day afrer day week after week month after month. Le's not talk about the Power Rangers or the Ninja Turtles. I have served my time. Well you get it, I love you, you love me were a happy family. I am sending you the tape and you can play it to get the full picture. No wonder I was driven to smoke! Thanks goodness my grandson is now eight and can watch other thiings that don't drive me crazy. Now we can curl up with the pups on the sofa and pick somethimg we both will enjoy.. K 2
  11. Right now I am counting my blessings. I do not know if I will be here on Thanksgiving. All of us know that life is precious and there are no guarantees. I never knew I would lose my husband at such an early age but I also knew from an early age that bad things happen. My father passed at the age of 36 of a heart attack brought on by a medication that was given to him by a doctor. Any of us could leave this world tonight in our sleep, I am okay with that. There are many young people on this board. I am not okay with them putting their lives in danger if they continue to smoke. We must focus on them, to tell them what could happen to them and their families if they fail. There is no doubt that it will have a profound effect on their spouse and their children. I think when we are young we don't think about the damage we are doing that will deny our family of what they deserve. They need to be healthy to play with their children, playing soccer, football, baseball, dancing, gymnastics, being on the swim team, being a diver, playing an instrument in a marching band. Showing them all the things they can accomplish. My husband and I were lucky, bad things did not start to happen until our son was a junior in high school. He had already been involved in so many sports and had been successful. I thought it would be me who got sick, but it was his Dad. So there we were, a smart successful kid who had worked hard for good grades, excelled in sports, learned to play trumpet and a second language. His world was torn apart when we finally had to tell him what was wrong. There was no hiding it, as his Dad had to start treatment. It fell on me to tell him there was no cure, that we would lose his Dad at some point. To this day, I can't remember the conversation. I don't want anyone to have that talk with their children. So that is my truth, my life that was wonderful until that point. The sad part is I could not stop smoking, even though my husband was going to die from skin cancer. We were only 46 years old. This is cautionary tale for young members. It can happen, it does happen, keep your quit, you have people that love and depend on you. Do not throw it away!!

    Covid up tick

@Linda How is your family doing? Has everyone been getting better? @Doreensfree Have seen reports that the virus is on the rise. Are you doing okay, have there been any restrictions? K
  13. @Boo give Pumpy ( Sugar Britches gave him a hat) and beard. Go to the thrift store and buy him an ugly christmas sweater. Put some fake wrapped presents at his feet, candy canes in his hands and change his name to Crumpy, the christmas scarecrow. Tell little Miss Boo he is Santa's friend waiting to see him. K
  14. There in lies the problem. We all have to say that everyday, at least I do. I say that everyday and I am tired of it. Do I have problems, yes, but I can only be responsible for me. I can't fix everything for anyone if I don't fix my own first. Right now, the goal is my quit, have I gained weight, you bet. Do I feel bloated and tired. Also true, but the most important thing is to quit smoking. That is my biggest health issue. I do feel physically better, I can breath which means I will be able to be more active, that will help the weight issue. You need to appreciate what you are doing for your self. Remain committed to the goal. I am 5 months in and the hand to mouth thing is passing and the weight is slowly going down. Now that the weather is cooler, I will start taking small walks. Keep in mind that I am still recovering from a hip replacement. You are doing great, even if you don't feel great right now. It will get better the more time that passes. I have found that to be true but I did not believe it at the beginning. Everyday does make a difference, keep going!!
  15. Run to it @Boo, these are the best years ever. Put up everything, decorate floor to ceiling (as long as baby girl can't get at it). Plan nightly rides in the car to take little Miss and Sugar Britches out to look at lights in the neighborhood. Get home and make hot chocolate or some special treat. We made it a holiday tradition. You too can create your own Christmas Vacation for future generations. They will remember and love every minute!! K
  16. Thanks Boo, I love this and I do have 3 pups, they do not look like these 3, but I do get this reaction when they get breakfast and dinner. K
  17. I am with @jillar Everyone fights more than one demon. Sometimes it is a physical thing, smoking, drinking, over eating. Sometimes emotional, whatever it is just take the time to really feel and understand. We all have to figure it out our own. You will feel better as we come to know whom we are and what we deserve. We all deserve the best. It will be okay, just do not force it, it is okay to go one step at a time.
  18. I have said in previous posts the we have to be aware of train robbers. This time for you, there must have been a gang. They stormed upon you waving guns and demanding submission and everything you hold dear. They are the enemy, trying to tell you that you are not in charge. That they hold in their hands the key to your future. They tried to rob you of not only your worldy goods, but your family and your freinds. They want you to feel weak, afraid and submissive. The Nicotine Gang does not care about you. They want to only pillage your bank account, spend your money, time with doctors and make you plead on your knees for a breath. What they fail to know is that you have your own gang, that will fight them to keep you safe. Your quit train is here to protect you, just call on them if there is any danger. They are here 24 hours a day. I know this to be true as I am living it!! Let the train take you to safety.
  19. @Opah I am glad she had it surgically implanted. I just hope it was not on your butt. When cell phones were new my husband would butt dial me and it would cost a fortune. We had many a fuss over that. I was running a budget and did not appreciate the charges even if he had a cute butt! Always remember to call. I never had a problem with the hubs stopping to have a beer with the boys or seeing his folks. I just wanted to know he was okay. He always worked really hard to provide. I told everyone I did not worry where he was, he would be home when he was tired or hungry. Most of the time he was at his folks, doing yard work and cleaning the pool. I was a lucky gal.
  20. @Opah Sorry but in Texas, that would be grounds for a lawsuit. The only way you would not be paid for a holiday is if you called in sick the day before or after the said holiday. If you were sick, you could provide a Doctors verification you were ill. They can not give everyone else a day off with pay for Thanksgiving. Here if you had to work the holiday you either get double pay or a day off at your discretion. Sounds like a bunch of crap. Did you sign anything that you accept this or have a union that did. If not I would be contacting the labor board in your state. K
  21. @Linda I am sorry to hear you are not feeling well. I agree, it is so frustrating when doctors can not figure out what is going on. I have been there to many times to count. You just feel defeated, that you do not even want to go see them because you never feel better. @Rozuki I am sorry to hear about your fall. Those are the type of things we all worry about as we get older. I have been lucky that all of mine have been in the house and not as serious as your injuries. Note to all, if you are going out for a walk and frankly for anything else do not leave leave your phone. That is why I don't do those things, I don't have a phone. I must be one of the only people in America that has a land line. Feel better soon!!! @jillar thinking of you and your special love today! I went out to the store this morning and the dogs acted like I had been gone a week. People think you just get over losing a beloved family(pet) member but that is not the case. The grief continues for a long time. I know you are still hurting and send you only good thoughts. It will be awhile yet but if you heart is open another may come to fill it with joy once again. K
  22. Thanks to everyone for your well wishes and support. Special thanks to Dorren for posting a picture of my husband. You are all great source of comfort and peace. I will not lie, for me the battle is still raging but the truth is we are all doing we thought was impossible. We are doing these with the support of people we have never met. It strikes me as sad and odd that so often our families, friends never tell us (me) that they are proud, that we (me) are doing great. I know that is my fault as I have pushed everyone away for various reasons. I think that prepared me for quiting. It is something that I can do for me. It has been along time since I put me first but here I am at 62, putting me first. That is what I have to say today, realize that sometimes you have to put yourself and your health first. You should be doing this for you and only you. I shall never be young again but I can have productive, happy, healthy years to do things I enjoy that matter to me. I have come to know myself without obligation to others and who they think I should be, I get to choose and so do you. Be your best self, do the things that bring you joy, peace, let the rest of it go. Love and best wishes! K
  23. Yes @AceWhite Women all over America are screaming your name. Everyone loves man who can dance his way through hard times
  24. Still on the train, has been a bumpy ride recently but not bad enough to cause a derailment. I am keeping an eye out for train robbers! sti
  25. At this point I am just going with the flow. I eat when I am hungry (not saying I make good food choices) I sleep when I am tired what ever the hour. I have the yearly physical next month. I just know I am not happy. I prefer to be early to bed, early to rise, I am thinking this is age related.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
