  12. As my daughter would say, “Don’t be jelly!” I am very blessed, and thankful at how my life is going, right now. I do wish I were younger, though. Also, I have overcome a lot of heartache, too: My first marriage was tough, and I had to end it. I lost my second husband, very suddenly. That was unspeakably awful. We lost my son-in-law to the war in Afghanistan. I have battled depression and anxiety, my whole adult life, and even had some hospital stays, as a result. Everyone’s life has challenges. I am fortunate that I’m a fighter. When I feel lost, I always manage to find my way back. I have a shrink, for help and meds. Having said all of that, I wouldn’t trade places with anyone. I cope well, for the most part. I have a great guy, great kids, and lots of adorable grandkids. Life is what you make of it, with whatever hand you’re dealt…..
  13. Welcome, @JustSomeGuy! We have the same story! I , too, gave up a 6 year quit for no good reason, but it took me longer to quit again, than you. I quit in April, 2009, and picked up over a bad romance, in 2015. Now I have an almost 5 month quit going. Like you, I want to stick around for the little ones: my 12 grandchildren. Number 13 will arrive next month. I would like to see them grow into young adults, if possible, maybe attend a few of their weddings. My oldest one is 14, so it’s possible. Congrats on your decision to quit, again. I wish you luck. It’s hard, but you can do it, for your son….
  14. This is horrible news, @jillar! Hoping things go the way you want.
  15. Speaking of going to the doctor for test results, I just returned from my Cardiologist’s office, for that very purpose. I had several tests a few weeks back. To use layman’s terms, I had ultrasound scans of both carotid arteries and my abdominal aorta. All is good! No signs of an abdominal aortic aneurysm, and no significant blockages of my carotids. She was impressed with my exercise regimen, and even more impressed that I am still not smoking. She asked what I am doing to make sure I don’t pick up a cigarette again, and I told her about this forum. I think it’s cool that me not smoking was so important to her, and she was holding me accountable, just like everyone here. She really does care, and even knew my quit date, as she had recorded it in her notes. So, a successful visit. She doesn’t need to see me for a year. I am not sure if it’s generally known here, but I have 3 stents in my heart, that have been there for 12 years.

  24. I have maintained my two sessions per day, 2 miles each, on the treadmill. It takes 35-36 minutes for each session. I use a 2.5 to 3.5 % incline, the whole time, and set the speed to at least 3.5 mph. Total calorie burn is about 575 each day, from my workouts. I have not missed a single workout. It is part of my daily routine. I would feel disappointed if I skipped a session. It feels good to work out every day. My frustration is that my weight does not budge. Maybe the weight gain people generally experience when they quit is at fault. I initially lost about 10 pounds when I started working out, but now I have plateaued. At least I have not gained any weight…..

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
