  1. I can identify with what you are going through, because I have experienced both severe depression and anxiety, off and on, throughout my adult life, but I’m still standing! I do hope you will seek medical advice, if it doesn’t get better soon, or if you feel that you cannot cope on your own. I am pulling for you.

    Damm virus

Thank you. That’s what I have been telling myself. Because I have always suffered from anxiety, it is easy for me to fall into the negative self talk trap, which only makes it worse. I am working on being more positive, and the power walking I’ve been doing (twice a day) should help, too. I am aiming at becoming a calmer, healthier, and perhaps even slimmer me.

    Damm virus

Went to a Memorial Day event yesterday, at a local cemetery. Place was packed, and not a mask in sight, except for the one I was carrying around. I did my best to avoid people, even though I ‘ve been fully vaccinated. I honestly believe the pandemic has exacerbated my anxiety problem, and I suppose quitting smoking didn’t help, either, though it may, in the long run.

  13. 1. Clean seeds out of your stash (back when it used to HAVE seeds)
  14. It was almost 100 here again. Temp should get back to normal soon. Hard to power walk when it’s this hot, especially at my age….
  15. I am fairly certain that I have harmed myself, irrevocably, from smoking, as evidenced by my significant heart disease. It is the price we all pay for our years long habit. Whatever I can do to mitigate the damage, I will. I owe it to my kids and grandkids to stay here with them, as long as I am able. And, not for nothing, I owe it to myself, as well. If I wind up with COPD, I will deal with it. Here’s hoping that there will be enough healthy alveoli, among the millions in my respiratory system, to do their job, without the need for supplemental O2. That is my wish for me, and for all of us, who have yet to be diagnosed with a chronic lung condition.
  16. I will definitely up my anxiety meds for the trip. In the end, I would be very disappointed in myself, if I cancel. I have to fly again at Christmas, and perhaps all the way to Japan early next year. I just wish I were normal.

  19. @PeachFuzz, it takes approximately one year for your lungs to completely get back to normal. Also, after one year, your cardiovascular risks from having smoked decrease by half. Keep in mind, as others here have learned, that as former smokers, we may all be at risk for developing COPD or Emphysema later in life.

  23. Depression is a serious condition. Anxiety, equally bad. It can have a profound impact on your life. It has, on mine. Right now I am struggling with anxiety over my upcoming cross country flight. I am going to Philly to be with all 3 of my sons, and to meet my youngest grandson, for the first time. My youngest son will be on leave from the USAF, and he is stationed in Japan. I don’t know when I will see him again, after this month, but it will be awhile. Because I suffer from panic attacks, the thought of thistle trip terrifies me. I think, “what if I have an attack mid-flight? “ I should add to this that I’m not fond of flying, in the first place. I know I can choose not to go, but at what cost? I would disappoint all my sons, but most of all, myself…….

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
