Ugh. I chose nicotine patches to assist me through my initial quit because of my history with anxiety and panic attacks. I skipped the stage 1 (21mg) and started with the stage 2 (14mg) patches even though I was a 2 pack a day smoker because I figured I could handle it and I did. It was rough, but I persevered. Today is my first day on the stage 3 (7mg) patches and I am feeling tense. I don’t have the urge to smoke at all, but it’s like a constant state of low agitation that is starting to wear on me. I’m doing everything I’ve done so far to help me get through the roughest parts of my quit, but I’m realizing it’s mental, not physical. And so I am on another tangent, berating myself because I am so weak-minded. So not in control of my mental state. I’m just speaking the trials of my journey. Maybe one day someone will read this and say, ‘But that’s me. I’m not alone in this battle. Others have fought the same fight. And won!’ Because I will. You will see. Stay on the train. And you will see.

OMG! I just got around to rewarding myself for my 6 week quit and it was with an ice cold Coca~Cola!!! I’ve been decaffeinating this week so when I started drinking and that sweet burn hit my tongue and the back of my throat it made my eyes water!! HaHa Like it was my first Coke ever! Definitely the best reward I’ve given myself to date!

Hi Janice! I’m pretty new here too. 6 weeks quit! Girl, this is the place to be for help. All of us here are not only here for ourselves but for each other! The most important thing to do right now is to watch the videos and read all of these posts from over the years from people who have gone through what you will. Every story is different and every quit unique. But what they did have in common was this site!!! Reach out when you need support and keep us updated on your journey. Your story will help someone else one day! I hope that you will make the decision to start your quit soon!

This is awesome @Dianne! One hour, one day, one week at a time. You’ll be at a month in no time! I am 6 weeks into my quit and this morning was the first morning that I’ve awakened without my first thought being, “Time for a smoke and then put the coffee on.” Yeah, I was so bad that I couldn’t put the coffee on and smoke while it was brewing. I suffer from anxiety also. Quitting smoking enhanced the anxiety exponentially and I’ve had more panic attacks in 6 weeks than I’ve had in 10 years. But it is getting better. Every minute, every hour, every day and every month. It is getting better. I am hoping and praying that when I am truly done with the initial quit that my regular anxiety will just disappear or become more easily managed. Stay true to your quit! I promise that it gets better! And stay on here as much as possible! We are here for each other!!! And I am proof positive that PRAYER WORKS!

6 weeks QUIT! This support forum! I honestly don’t think I would have made it this far without you all. All of the advice and information on here?! All of the personal testimonies of trials, losses, and wins?! Thank you! Aside from the aforementioned? Let those tears flow. Drink, drink, drink plenty of cranberry juice and water. Can’t sleep? Take something. And breathe! Deep wonderful cleansing breaths! Interact with some members on here. Take into account the advice given by those who’ve succeeded and don’t be shy about putting your stories out there. It helps others to know what we go through. WE CAN DO THIS TOGETHER!!!

@jillar That’s fantastic! It would be so nice to find out that I am just a naturally peppy person without caffeine! It seems that I do remember a girl that was like that long ago. Cigarettes suck!!

Oh no. I’m so sad for you and your dear friend. I’m sorry that you are hurting. Losing loved ones is the worst. My husband was diagnosed with cancer and even though it was stage IV he lived for two more years. I understand the desire to put yourself into a nicotine laden stupor but please be true to your quit. Please show your friend that you will be strong when she can’t be. Please show your friend that she will be leaving behind someone who is a fighter, someone who is capable to live life to it’s fullest without chains. Let her know that it will be a tribute to her. You can and will do this for yourself but in her name.
