  1. Congratulations QG! 9 months quit is awesome. I experienced a lot of what you mentioned when I used to smoke. We always considered our habit over everything. It affected our choices on everything. I hope that you had fun celebrating today.
  2. LOL Thanks! I meant to change it for Valentines and then forgot about it again.
  3. Congratulations Kate! I hope that you are celebrating well!
  4. Severe engine issues revealed today and I was having trouble coping. Out of nowhere or maybe that somewhere in the mind that tells you that you can’t cope, that there is some nameless something you need to get through this and then just as quickly it’s gone and your left thinking or maybe yelling it aloud in a rage, “I KNOW WHAT I NEEDED!” The addict is always there. It’ll show up when you least expect it to. It enrages me. Leaving me feeling weak and less than. But I am NOT! I’ve been kicking nicotine to the curb for almost three years and I will not release it from the chains that had me bound. The chains that I worked so hard to bind it with. I can’t and I will not. It’s why I still hang around here. Y’all helped me so much and still do. Almost everyday I get some kind of help here. Oh, well after some deep breathing and grounding myself I have gone on about my day. Without that crutch I used to have to carry around with me. It’s good to breathe freely!
  5. Congratulations and welcome to the Lido Deck Bri! I hope that you did something amazing to celebrate. You did so wonderfully well. Hanging around here strengthens you so much and that first year goes by so much easier. I hope you stay to help others along the way.
  6. Got some eats to share!
  7. Congratulations @DenaliBlues! Two years is amazing. You’ve done so well for yourself and helped so many others. I hope that you had a wonderful celebration!
  8. Welcome aboard @Icandothis2. All of the above advice is spot on. I quit by using the patch. I have severe anxiety issues and suffer from panic attacks. The patch helped me cope. I started at stage 2 and did that for a few weeks and dropped down to stage 1 and used that until the day I forgot to put one on. lol The patch did take the edge off for me. I was still a mess mind you. For a week I wouln’t go out in public. But I survived. Everyone here did. Quitting smoking is totally doable and the main thing you can do is to stick close to this site and reach out as needed. I’ll be rooting for you and we hope to hear from you soon!

    The Dark Room

I remember reading this during the initial days of my quit almost 3 years ago. It helped me identify what I was going through and reinforced what would be waiting for me on the other side. I’ll ever be thankful for all of the reading material and video links available on the QuitTrain.
  10. Hi Elena. There’s this old song titled, “I’m gonna wash that man right out of my hair”. You go do that. You go get in the shower and wash him and the stench of those cigarettes right out of your hair. You don’t need either one of them. Smoking kills and your ex is a killjoy. Time to let them both go. I hope that you hang around here and get your quit back on. The sooner you do it the easier it will be. Time to be free.
  11. Congratulations @catlover on your 6th year of being quit. A job well done!
  12. Excellent post @QuittingGirl! You’ve come so very far on this journey for life! You’ve done beautifully.
  13. Congratulations! 7 years is amazing and yes, upon reflection: I hope that you celebrated well yesterday!
  14. I hope that you are feeling better @Cbdave! I’ve always been told that summer strains of the flu and pneumonia are stronger than those contracted during the winter months. I don’t know if it’s scientifically proven or not. Keep getting those fluids down even if you’ve started feeling better.
  15. It’s great to hear from you @Amy R. and that you are doing so well! You so had this from Day 1 and never looked back! Keep living your best life!
  16. The truth never changes, nor does it get old. It get’s easier, I promise.
  17. Really late in welcoming you to our quit family, Susie. It’s a great thing that you have decided to quit smoking though. It’s a tough go for awhile but totally doable. The nicotine is already out of your system so you don’t want to reintroduce it if at all possible, so I would avoid NRT if at all possible, but don’t feel belittled if you feel that you need it. The time to prepare for overcoming the craves you will experience as you return to school is now though. Avoid the areas you smoked as much as possible, have something to pop into your mouth and to keep your hands occupied accessible, drink plenty of water, and breathe. Slow and deep cleansing breaths. The longer you can exhale the better! And by all means get on this site and SOS us if you need to. We are here for you!
  18. “It takes time......it takes patience..it takes re-enforcement... In short, it takes work...but it is sooooooo worth it.”
  19. Amazing quit Quitting Girl! You are doing great! I’m so proud of the way you have worked through all of the issues you have had to deal with. I hope that you are proud of your accomplishments too.
  20. I hope that you are so very proud of yourself! I am. Everyone here is. You are amazing.
  21. Congratulations on your first decade of being smoke free Bat. A feat most worthy of being celebrated in an amazing way! True to life superhero.

    Hi

Hello Thomas. This site was a great find for me and will be for you as well. The support you receive is unmatched and the more you hang around and utilize this site the more support and understanding you will have. Joining QuitTrain was the single most smartest thing I did when I quit. Coming up on 3 years this March! You can do this! See you around!
  24. Those words hit hard. Truth.
  25. Welcome back Darcy! I spent almost the first whole week of my quit in bed. lol I laugh about it now, but quitting smoking broke my brain. Mind bending stuff. I look forward to seeing you succeed!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
