  1. Welcome aboard @Marie71! I’m 55 and smoked for 35 years. I recently passed my one year quit mark and I used NRT to quit. I used the patch. I suffer from severe anxiety and I knew that my mind would break if I went cold turkey. I was determined to quit, so I went through a long drawn out process of reducing the nicotine in my system until the day I forgot to put a patch on and decided I was done with the patch too. I would never outright recommend that someone put themselves through weeks/months of withdrawal to quit unless their mental state can be as messed up as mine can be. I knew, without a doubt after a few weeks in that I had only one quit in me and that my mind would never survive another quit. I was either quit and done or I would die smoking. We are here for you whatever you decide to do because ultimately this is YOUR quit journey. We just ask that you reach out when needed so that we can help you along. I have faith in you. You seem determined! Stay close!

  5. Congratulations Steven! 10 months! You have done wonderfully well. How are you?
  6. Hello @Robbie! I miss you girl! It’s funny how special the attachments are to those that are newbie quitters around the same time you yourself are! But I have faith in you! After a rough start you battled right on through all while suffering the more oppressive Covid restrictions!! I know that you are still smoke free and I hope that you are still out and about enjoying your music!! Take care Robbie! I will not forget the journey we traveled together along with a few others. I will not forget the promise we swore to each other. NOPE! NOPE! NOPE! I surely will not!
  7. Keep pushing through those craves @Kdad! You are so much stronger than you know! I was glad to see that you posted an SOS today also. Keep fighting and use what the train offers!
  8. Seven years + is AWESOME!!! It will not be so long before I get there. 6 years, but I ain’t going back just staying on this forward march!!!
  9. Congratulations and thanks for helping me along the way!
  10. Oh no! I have no knowledge of tile work. I hope that you can figure it out or get some help!

  13. Ditto on Yoda’s response, @Brioski! You are doing exceptionally well. And I’ve said it so many times since I’ve joined QuitTrain: Every little thing you can take time to document on this site helps you and helps so many others. It’s why I took a seat. While lurking, I could read so many personal trials and failures and victories. They helped me so much. I knew that I wasn’t alone. I knew that others had been where I was at and that I was where others might be in the future. Write it out. For all of the future to see, so that they will KNOW.
  14. @DenaliBlues Fishing is not one that I had problems uncoupling from smoking. I never needed to smoke when I fished. Fishing is my ultimate destination, my ‘when and where’ that I can absolutely forget the world. I should’ve never smoked. Maybe became a professional fisherman. Hmmm.
  15. I’ve never heard it referred to as that and I’ve been going there at least once a year my whole life. That’s crazy. And anyway, the devil did come down to Georgia, but Johnny fiddled him a new one. So no hell ain’t here.
  16. Yes, the potato salad is really good. Also, love the fishing too. I guess I’m a pretty simple gal!
  17. Ohhh! This puts me in mind of the Reuben sandwich Cafe International restaurant right on the river in Helen Ga serves. On a cool fall day after hiking some trails and a spot of shopping? Perfect!!!
  18. I love corned beef and cabbage. I don’t get it often enough though. My mom made the best that I’ve ever had.
  19. Welcome @Brioski! 8 days quit is amazing! I’ve just recently reached the Lido Deck and I’m telling you this is completely doable! Stay focused! Stay quit! I’m thankful that you have support on hand, but remember there is almost always someone here and if absolutely necessary send out an SOS!!! I’m thankful that you have decided to join us!
  20. Congratulations QuitTrain and thank you to @MarylandQuitter!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
