  11. You have to really make that decision to quit. Write down the reasons and stick with your decision. When the craves come, tell yourself, no- I don't smoke anymore and move on. Juan, you can do this, you got past day 1 before. You can do it again. The craves don't hurt you, they are annoying, but they do not hurt and they go away. The best advise, I think, is to not take that next puff.

Babs. I am so sorry to hear this. You must be so devastated. They are part of your family, no doubt about it. But the money situation is so real and not many people have that kind of cash. I know I wouldn't. I hope for the best and find a speedy recovery. (((Babs))).
  21. You can do this Evelyn. Bring lollipops or tootsie rolls with you. That really helped me. Just look at the smokers and realize that they have to smoke and you do not. You have broken away from that deadly addiction. You are free and going to stay that way, one day at a time.
  22. Congratulations TAC! I am sure that it will be perfect!
  23. I love this thread Julie. I remember so well all the things that were mentioned. Playing outside all day long, we used to play "kick the can" on the streets in our neighborhood (kickball with a can), baseball, Barbie dolls in the yard, basketball, listening to cassettes, top 40 count down with Cassie Cassum. We got so excited when we were able to buy ice cream from "the ice cream man". We had Atari with "ping pong" and we were glad to have it. I used to walk about two miles to spend my 50 cents on penny candy. I walked to school and to church. I had a paper route at 14. My kids don't walk anywhere. I have to kick them out of the house to get them to play outside. Penny candy- no, they want the big bag. Hmm- I need to re-think my parenting style.

    Kids

That is so cute Tracey. I agree, I bet she loves coming over your house. I started off with one child. Got re-married to a guy with two children. Then had another. So we had four in our house full time, starting off with two-four year olds, a two year old and a newborn- ugh! You really cherish those times when Aunties and Grandparents offer to take them for the day. Most are grown now, but it was a challenge and rewarding at the same time.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
