  8. Linda, I'm sorry you relapsed...I believe you really want to quit. I'm on Day 13, and I can relate to it being hard--sometimes you miss cigarettes--they were a big part of our lives--and all of a sudden that part of our lives is gone. I think you really have to focus on the positive--I am feeling some depression from giving them up, but the feeling of not being enslaved to cigs, not harming myself with cigs, not having to worry if I smell like smoke (which I'm sure I probably did most of the time lol), keeps me going. One time when I was buying cigarettes back when I used to smoke, the cashier (an older man) told me I should quit and I told him it would be too hard, and he said to me "you just have to believe in yourself" and I thought that was overly simplistic advice, but each day that goes by that I am smokefree, I think there was a lot of merit to that advice...you just have to believe in yourself...I know you can do it, Linda, and you are worth it! I am really rooting for you!
  9. Linda, Good luck to you, too! I'm really rooting for you! You can do this!
  10. Sorry to hear you relapsed, but you can do this. I am on Day 12, and I posted a lot on Day 1 about how I was doing throughout the day, and it helped a lot. It sounds like your body is sick of the cigarettes, so do this act of quitting as an act of self-care for yourself. You can do it! Let us know how you are getting on throughout the day.
  11. NOPE!
  12. Thanks Beazel!
  13. SamDy, Don't be scared to use the patch. I started using the 21 mg patch 11 days ago, and it has been really helping me. I chose the 21 mg because I was a one pack per day smoker. (I smoked for 23 years.) I move mine around to different locations on my upper arms and have noticed minimal skin irritation only one time and it quickly went away. I don't wear a patch when I go to sleep, but I did accidentally fall asleep once without taking it off and I did have very strange dreams, woke up and simply took it off, and I was fine. I would not be scared of using it--it has helped me tremendously--I never thought I could go 1 day without smoking, and so far I have gone 11 days smokefree! I think you will find it helps a lot and even better that your doctor recommended it!

  21. Linda, Hang in there! I'm only on Day 8 of my quit, and I have times when I feel very uncomfortable and depressed trying to navigate through feelings that come up that I can't just puff away anymore. Stay focused on the positive--you are no longer harming yourself with cigs (I don't know about you, but I used to smoke even when I was sick--how depressing it that?) My hair smells really nice now, I can breathe easier, I have the peace of mind that I am not sucking the life out of myself with cigarettes, I have more energy, I dont have to worry about getting stains on my teeth....think of how depressing smoking truly is and focus on all the wonderful positives you are doing for yourself by sticking with your quit. You are giving yourself the greatest gift of freedom and health! If you need to vent or talk, we are all here to support you. Don't give up. You already have 3 weeks quit--that is wonderful...I wish I was that far along!
  22. NOPE!!!
  23. Thanks so much you guys for such kind supportive words! I'm finally done with hell week. Yay!!! I did well last night--cravings were earlier in the evening instead of at "3 cig ritual before bed time"--which was a relief. In fact, this morning was the 1st morning I woke up and didn't think about smoking or the fact I wasn't smoking--I almost forgot to put on my patch because thoughts of cigs were not in my brain--kind of amazing. Reciprocity, I LOVE the butterfly analogy...it seems we go through a lot of changes and turbulence when we quit and that is such a hopeful analogy of coming out the other side with a more beautiful and healthy self Thanks again for the support everyone!
  24. Johnny, thanks for the encouragement...I really needed the positivity today!
  25. Thanks Jillar! That is great advice

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
