  1. Congratulations on 3 months, Steven! Staying off the smokes through COVID is not easy. The fact that you are doing it and handling your depression too show that you have strength and resilience to stay the course. Way to go, Sir. Keep up the great work and honor yourself for being good to you. Woohoo!
  2. Thanks Jillar! Thanks everyone! Can't believe it's almost a year already! Feels great being smoke free. Love not having to stand outside in the cold and wet to get my fix. My reward was oral surgery to remove an impacted wisdom tooth. Not fun! But now it's done! Still can't believe I was using nicotine for so long...34 years. Feels awesome being free. Thanks to the creator and admins of this site, and all of you who support the newbies. Love riding the Train! Happy Holidays Folks!
  3. Sorry you relapsed but you can quit right away again! So sorry about your grandma too. Watching my mom die of COPD got me to finally quit for real. I want to breathe when I am 65...not be hooked up to an oxygen machine and have to carry a tank of it around to go shopping. I didn't even tell anyone right away that I quit. I feel like telling people you quit jinxes it somehow and brings all the temptation from smokers {and possibly the devil}. I think I was 6 weeks quit before I told anyone in real life. People offer you a smoke, tell them it's giving you stomach cramps so you're trying to cut back...or something. Smokers don't want you to quit successfully...it's not cuz they don't love you. They want a partner in smoker hell. Best of luck in your new quit and enjoy those felines!
  4. Welcome FluffyYD! Congratulations on deciding to quit smoking! If you quit now you will save your health, lots of money, and your teeth! This is a great site to get information and support! I highly recommend the Joel Spitzer videos for good counsel, and to watch the documentaries to get you all fired up against smoking. The wonderful people here have been where you are going, so hang out and get all the support and information you can stand. Browse around, play the games, read read read and watch, and don't smoke! You can totally do it! I recently did it and it's easier than you think! Just be prepared in case you get the blues around the 4th month...exercise will likely counter that. The sooner you stay off smokes the sooner you will be back to optimum health, and the better your life will be! As a veteran smoker who finally quit successfully after sucking on the cancer sticks for 34 years, I can tell you the one major regret I have is that I didn't quit so much earlier and spare myself all the adverse health issues and money wasted. Since your health is your greatest and most valuable asset, and medical and dental care costs a fortune, it makes sense to quit as soon as possible and never go back! You will thank yourself for it later.
  5. Waay belated THANKS to all! Feels good to be off the smokes! Can't really understand why I had to smoke all those years considering I can go 10, 11 months and more without. Odd. This is a wonderful support group!
  6. Way to go, Kate! 9 is divine! Doesn't it feel so great to not have to go outside to smoke! Keep it up...you are already free!!!!! Yippee
  7. Welcome K Smooth! Great decision to quit smoking! Exercise instead of eating so you don't gain weight...Best of luck! You can do it...gets easier day by day! Congratulations on taking your health back!
  8. Way to go, Mac! Great job staying off the stogies even with all the stress. You're totally doing it. Keep going!!
  9. Congratulations, JohnQ, on 6 months of freedom. Celebrate and keep it up!!
  10. Way to go, Layla! Keep it up! It gets easier...you will see!!
  11. The occasional one leads to another...maybe only one a month for several month. Then an event speeds up the interval. Then something else happens and you smoke again. Now you're at one a week. Boom b4 u know it full on smoking again. How many slips...depends on the person for sure. But just one can get it done.
  12. Cool dreaming of reaffirming your quit, Kate! I dream about relapsing here and there, and I'm always upset about it in my dream. Upon waking I'm always relieved it was only a dream, and recalling my disappointed feelings makes me reaffirm my quit. Great job on your deep seated resolve!
  13. Might as well quit before your habit gets deeply cemented again...and the coughs anjd junk return, etc. You can do it! Think of all the money you will have for other endeavors. Your desire to be able to breathe is stronger than the nicotine addiction. Focus on that as it is the #1 goal when you really get down to it. To be able to breathe...5, 10, 15, 20 years from now.
  14. Way to go Sarge! All the dough you haven't spent on ciggies! All that lung health won back! Awesome...
  15. Congratulations, Johnny, on 6 years quit! Thank you for all of your support and encouragement here! Stupendous, man!! Keep rockin'!!!
  16. I sometimes drank to help me through nicotine withdrawals in the beginning. Not good because you do risk relapsing. Food was also a substitute. Try exercise or anything healthy so you won't have another bad habit to kick or 25 pounds to lose.
  17. I'm on the same page as Mac but am grateful for this post as it reminds me to get my strategy together and reaffirm my vow to not smoke...not one puff!
  18. Hi Kdad! Sorry to hear you started back up smoking. Good news is you can quit again! You don't wanna waste another year's breath on smoking when you want to preserve it for your kids and grandkids, right? You know you can quit, so might as well do it ASAP. All the best!
  19. Happy 7, Mac! Congratulations on staying off the smoke for 7 months! Reward yourself! Cool that you never have to smoke again, right? No more freezing outside to get a fix.....Ahhhh sweet freedom! Great job!

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
