  5. Way to go Steven! First month is a major step. Congratulations nd keep it going. best wishes.
  6. I did what Mac is saying when I quit. I stopped drinking(2-4 a day habit) for 5 weeks before I had a drink and I kept that practice up for quite a while. I never returned to drinking as much as I use to but still enjoy a cold one or glass of wine. Everyone is different but Mac`s advice is the way I resumed drinking after quitting and it worked for me. Good idea to trash the smokes if your going to drink. I strongly advise not getting drunk while you are early in your quit. Best wishes.

  9. All of the above posts except jillar`s. My parents did not smoke but I was around plenty of people that did as i grew older and no one really seemed to mind it much. I can recall Mom telling people to go to the living room to smoke. Living room? What a name to call a place to smoke. Some things have changed for the better.

  16. Congratulations on the 7 year quit and thank you for support and advice over the years. You are inspiration to us all. Best wishes.
  17. I have to agree with all the posts that gradual decline does not work. For the last few years I smoked I was constantly getting down to just a few a day. better than a pack a day but not quitting or even getting close. Actually it was my doctor who suggested that method. I always thought that if only I could be forced not to smoke for a few days I could make the move to quit. Careful what you wish for and every cloud does have a silver lining. Make a long story short, I came down with a viral pneumonia and spent 3 days in ICU and another 5 in the hospital. It was just time to put up or shut up in my mind. I had run out of excuses. I just wish I had done it sooner. Other people use different methods to quit than CT and I support that but you have to get the cig out of your mouth. I wish you all the best.

  21. Amyen123, Jillar is right. We all have moments like this but they don`t last forever and every time you beat it back you will be stronger and your resolve to quit will be also. Stay strong and stay close to the board. S.O.S if need be. Don`t let this beat you. You can do this. Best wishes.
  22. A hearty congratulations on the half year quit Mac! Best wishes.

  24. The breathing exercise mentioned by Nancy worked and continue to work for myself. Helps to slow down sometimes and just feel the power of breathing. All sorts of things you can explore. Keep positive and one day at a time. Best wishes.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
