  1. Doreensfree Quit Date: 7 /8/2013 Posted August 14, 2017 I'm here to tell you exactly what it's like to live with C.O.P.D/emphysema.. It starts with a cough..that get alot worse and persistent.. People put it down to a smokers cough..the time scale can differ, as were all different...all of a sudden it gets herder to do the things you could do easy..take the stairs,walk to the local shop,shower,ect... You get help with inhalers,clinic,s ,rehab,but nothing stops it's on slaught... Very slowly.. You are robbed of your life and depend on your spouse to tend to your needs.. Giving time..depression sets in..then you have to deal with a double whammy.. Panic attacks and anxiety start because all this is scarey stuff to deal with.. This is how you will spend the rest of your life...and it could be years... Fighting for your every breath..panic and anxiety...on oxygen tanks... You owe it to yourself and your spouse to avoid this at all costs... I am that spouse and we deal with this on a daily basis....   5. I beg to differ Pedro, each and everyone of us have had faith that what those that came before us are saying is true. As far as mantras go, I used to tell myself over and over again that "this too shall pass". And " All good(?) things must come to and end".

  7. @Brioski, I had just as bad a quit as you're having and I can tell you straight up to keep going through these sucky days because the light is at the end and once through that's it. Done! Two months is such a small amount of time when you look at how long you've been smoking. Give yourself a break. It's ok to feel like crap, it won't be forever....................

  10. DenaliBlues Quit Date: 2/10/2022 Posted January 21 Reading and re-reading is a great strategy in the early hours and days of your quit. I did that, too. What else will you do to support and distract yourself? You might try making a list of things you can do instead of smoking when the cravings strike. I know it sounds corny to make a list, but it helps to be prepared (things to do with your hands, things to do with your mouth, mindless tasks, exercise snacks, physical comforts). Otherwise, Addict Mind will go blank and tell you that nothing but smoking will suffice. When things get crunchy, remember... Cravings really suck, but they will pass. A craving is a commercial, not a command. The feeling of "Other people can quit but I cannot" is a withdrawal symptom, NOT an accurate assessment of your ability. During the early stages of withdrawal, our addicted brains tell us all kinds of crazy s--t that isn't true. During that time, trust what you read here on the board, don't trust Addict Mind.   20. Distract, distract, distract. Play a mind game that forces you to think about something else. Lots of cool game apps. I have Woodoku on my phone that's prettty fun to play the "journeys" and get my token if completed lol. The higher levels get hard
  21. Brioski I know you don't give a F right now but you will when the fight blows over. Hang on, keep smoking your BAC and wait it out. Do something you never smoked while doing. I never smoked in my new car so I would take a drive and as soon as I started the engine it seemed I forgot about smoking. Find your sweet spot You know fights don't last that long and once you get past this one the rest (if any) will be easy to get through without the bad craves. You may still crave but not as bad as this one.

  23. Darcy what changed between this post and the one below it just three hours later? If you're giving in that easily than you'll never succeed. It sounds mean but it's the truth. You have to commit to the quit if you really want it............
