  1. The motivation has to come from you @Matthew0225, but we're all proof it can be done. I suggest you read the topics here and see if something strikes you enough to quit. I also moved your thread to our main board because the SOS board is meant to be used to save a quit so don't hesitate to use it if needed after you quit.

  5. Marie, I used what we referred to as my JAC (jillars air cigarette). I just pretended I was holding an actual cigarette in my fingers and then went through the motions of "smoking" it. It worked great at tricking my brain into thinking it was getting the real thing. And because it was invisible, I didn't have to worry about where I left it lol. Don't overthink your quit Marie, you'll talk yourself right out of it!

Will I tell you it will be easy? No. Will I tell you it can be easy? Yes. My dad put down his cigs about 20yrs ago and never looked back, for him it was easy, maybe you will be one of those who can just walk away, .... if you're like me, some days will be better than others... but oh sooo worth it!! Some advice, Once you put down your last cig, say to yourself and others "I've quit smoking".. DON'T say "I'm trying to quit"... once you put out that last cig YOU ARE QUIT.. ..unless you light another one and smoke it - you are quit!! ,..own it.. be proud of it.. Don't be afraid to ask for help, support, a shoulder to lean on, an ear to listen, whatever it is you need in that moment to get you thru - ask,.. this addiction can be tough,.. but it can be beat, and we are here to help, so let us know what you need. Mark Twain said "It's easy to quit smoking, I've done it a thousand times"... a good number of us here on the QT can say the same, .. we've stopped only to start again,.. until we came here ... here we have the support when we need it, - the laughter and silliness when we need that - distraction when we need that... You can quit today and next year at this time you can be celebrating your one year quit... One way I look at my quit is that it has been a lot like the wheels on the train,...they moaned and groaned and spun wildly as they tried to grip the rail to gain traction at the beginning,.. but slowly it got easier, the wheels took hold, they turned faster as one day turned to another.. I worked hard to move ahead and not look back, .. there where a few "hills" that were hard to climb and to be honest I really thought of taking the easy way out a few times, but I didn't.. I dug deep pushed forward and with encouragement and support from the QT family I made it to the "top of the hill" and then coasted down the other side.. I didn't give up on me..they didn't give up on me... and they/we won't give up on you... Only you can put that cig in your mouth and light it. Only you can decide NOT to light the next one..just that next one ........make that decision and we'll be here to support you ...   7. Welcome aboard @Marie71 and congratulations on deciding to quit. My experience with cutting back didn't work. I always found an exception to the limit I was down to. What did work for me was telling myself over and over things like "all good(?) things must come to an end". Or " so and so quit so I can too". I also quit smoking in my normal place so that when I did quit I could go in that area without associating it with smoking. You can do this, we're all proof. Oh and the only reason I quit cold turkey was because of how much NRT's cost here but there's no shame in using them if it helps you stay quit
  8. Sorry to hear you relapsed again @nicotine_free but good for you for getting back to it. You're not the first chronic relapser to ride the train so I'm going to have faith in that you'll find your forever quit. Maybe next time try an SOS?
  9. You're doing great @JustinHoot99. You're going to have memories and triggers for a while. We smoked for a lot of years making a lot of triggers to get past. Just keep reminding yourself that you got past that last one and can get through the next one

  14. @intoxicated yoda, I'm so sorry for what sounds like the death of someone dear to you. Its always so hard. I thought about smoking too when my mom died back in 2019 so I can relate. The thing I can tell you is its ok to THINK about smoking as long as we don't ACT on it.
