Oh jumping in... Friends.....I quit in the middle of softball season....lots of me softball mates are smokers...I couldn't avoid them...I will confess to doing the 2nd hand smoking thing but I would have 1 wiff then be off....see I knew I couldn't avoid it, so quick sniff opposite side of the dugout....my rules were simple, I'd allow myself to smell it but I was not having a puff ...it only took a few weeks and U didn't even want that smell hit. But I prooved to myself I could do it. Post workout.....expanding on Jill's healthy snack suggestion...carrot or celery sticks...you can air smoke them AND have a nice crunchy chewy snack. In my early quit I had a phone app...it had a crave buster feature...this was that card flip memory game....ran for 3mins on repeat...only once did I need to go back to back to beat a crave ..see your brain can't focus on a crave when you are making it do something else. Minesweeper worked too.
  18. Sadly there ya no hard and fast rule...as the others have said accepting you are a nicotine addict and learning how this addiction works are the keys. I very much just took it as 1 day at a time. I only ever worried about not smoking for the single day. So the way my addiction works is that the habit and the emotional addiction was stronger than the physical addiction. I needed to break those to feel comfortable in my quit. So this time I used NRT gum and it helped get me passed the hurdle...do I wish I had quit cold turkey, sure, but it wasn't my reality. What I can tell you is cold turkey, hypnosis, Champix, NRT there are no short cuts...you have to go through the hairy days to get up those hay days. Biggest tips.... 1. Only quit for one day at a time, don't worry about tomorrow, just focus on today. 24 little hours. 2. Keep you fluids and blood sugars up...drink juice, it Kilda two birds with one stone. 3. Learn, learn, learn....how the addiction works, what it has done to your brain. 4. Have some placebos, hard lollies (sweets/candies) to suck on, normal gum to chew, mints to suck, a pen to "fake" smoke. Anyone can quit, including you, it doesn't take a miracle, or a super power Nd definately not luck....all it takes is promising yourself never to put anything in your mouth and set it on fire and smoke it and fighting to keep that promise. That's it.
  19. So 3 injections of lidocaine latter and it held just long enough to pull the earring through the back. Guess those studies that said locals don't work on red heads were on the money. She did get a Slurpee and a golden gaytime Krispy Kreme donut out of it.....omg the donuts taste just like the icecreams.
  20. OMG @Sazerac....stunning, and so precious. Including your grandmother's rosaries is the thing that will make this a true treasure. I absolutely love this. Me...sitting at the quacks waiting to have the kid seen in the treatment room...new piercing so swollen the head of earring has disappeared into the piercing...so it's inside her ear. Here's the back of the earring... But where's the front of the earring...
  21. Well seeing as I seem to be pulling my head back outta me own arse
  22. Young orangutans don't eat lizards. Purse
  23. But I think my man Kutcha says it best.... It's better to have tried and failed than never try at all....but you gotta get back up again peeps..

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
