  1. https://www.emergency.vic.gov.au/respond/#!/incident/ESTA:200101306 Just watch Nick Kyrgios lose his shit and cry because "we" have the most toxic air in the world at the moment....so until yesterday I was a bit anti Kyrgios...he's just always seemed a bit of an ego tosser but today changed that.
  2. New fire has started a bit closer to me...still miles away but it's in an area I visit pretty regularly so hits home a bit more.
  3. Um... cos you thought it was done and dusted so didn't have your defences up. Life through some shit your way and those stress sensors hadn't been tested yet, Just guessing. There you go, now you know.... on wards and upwards McDuff.... get this show back on the road. ^^ What she said.
  4. Why don't you go take a long walk off a short pier.
  5. Let me give you the long and the short of it.
  6. The land and forest don't fair too badly. There are a large number of plants here that need fire to propagate, they don't even seed unless they are burnt at the right temperatures. The worst thing we did was stop controlled burnings, seriously the Aboriginals have been doing them for 60 million years. Within a year there will be so much new growth you wont believe it was as bad as it was. Within 5 years there will be no physical reminders. Its amazing the way nature recovers herself. The animals do it hard, the air is pretty unavoidable, the loss of lives, you kind of feel them all, even though they are total strangers. We have 2 confirmed dead in Victoria and 17 28 still missing. Our Premier (kinda like your governors) has declared many zones to be under a state of disaster (this is the next level up from emergency) which means forcible evictions from property if evacuations are called. There are still over 3,000 people stranded on a beach in Mallacoota with no roads open in or out, surrounded by fire. The navy have evacuated 1100.
  7. I don't think I overly noticed smoking on the screen when I smoked, although in a long movie it would leave me hangin for a durry. When I first quit I was shocked at the amount of onscreen smoking...and it pushed a lot of buttons. I still notice it but it's not the trigger it was. I think, in some movies it needs to be there for historical accuracy...not smoking in the trenches would be bullshit...now as a mum of a teen I asked the kid for her opinion...she's my kid, she's Gunna have some .. so we chatted and she said... 1. I don't like seeing smoking because it makes people look ugly and stupid. (Gee thanks kid, I look ugly and stupid?....you used ta, but not now.) 2. (She has grown up in a time where you can't even smoke in outdoor cafes here) I get angry when I see people smoking at work and in shops and resteraunts, that's so stupid. Why did they used to let people do that. Everywhere must have just smelled bad. 3. Smoking is something lots of people did in the olden days (sorry peeps, that's the 1980s back according to the kid) when they were stupid and didn't know how bad it was. 4. Only the badies smoke now, or the dumb ones in movies unless they are olden days movies (war flicks or similar). Olden movies should have smoking cos it's what people did. 5. People shouldn't be smoking in zombie shows cos all the factories are closed and surely all of the smokes have run out by now....and who is mowing the lawns? 6. Viking shows are good cos they don't smoke.
  8. Not nice sweet Liverpool Doorknob toads...just ugly cane toads...
  9. I remember Ash Wednesday and I was only a little kid...I remember watching the roos jumping into the ocean off the cliffs at Anglesea...on the news..kinda traumatic....Ash Wednesday was like this..west of the Adelaide Hills all of Victoria up the coast and southern NSW....but it wasn't as prolonged and sustained as this. This has been constant since August and every time you think it can't get worse it does. Tomorrow and Saturday are looking real dicey.
  10. The fireies down here (Vic) think we are in for bigger issues late Feb and early March than we are right now.
  11. Omg bloody cane toads...those poisonous buggers are a plague...not natives but introduced ferral animals that are actually bad for our environment...like rabbits and foxes.
  12. New year best and worst... Worst...my health and the side effects of the meds... Best...my day with Doreen.

  16. Flying Foxes are dirty, noisy diseased things but still kinda cute...we have a loner one who lives in the park across the street...drives my neighbour mental when he strips his fruit trees.
  17. Yep we surely are, it's why we call it The Lucky Country.
  18. She'll be right Doreen....don't worry...it's gotta ease up soon. LB has been at fires all week in SA... Melbourne has been smokey for a few days now but was clear today...still sporting that smoke affected voice though.
  19. NOPE...and for any smokers out there lurking who are thinking tonight's the night...go for it mates, make the call and end your addiction this year....one day to go cobssies so take the plunge, you won't regret it.
  20. Music for a stinking hot Melbourne night....
  21. Zipper snake A pen1s.
  22. Love this...was reading the first post and going please don't be a snake, please don't be a snake.... My dad has bluies in his yard...has one who lives on the opposite side of the path to the strawberry patch...whrn they're in season, every bloody morning when dad's out having his cuppa he watches the bluey walk across the path, into the strawberry patch and then walk back with one in his mouth....Dad figures it's a small fee for no snails and bugs. Snail pallets are banned at me dad's too.
  23. Getting ready to sing happy birthday to the boxing day cousin.
  24. While I love raw fish...when I make sushi I use smoked salmon, roast duck in terryaki sauce, tuna (as in tinned) and crab and prawns..both cooked.

About us

QuitTrain®, a quit smoking support community, was created by former smokers who have a deep desire to help people quit smoking and to help keep those quits intact.  This place should be a safe haven to escape the daily grind and focus on protecting our quits.  We don't believe that there is a "one size fits all" approach when it comes to quitting smoking.  Each of us has our own unique set of circumstances which contributes to how we go about quitting and more importantly, how we keep our quits.
